Admin Post: Come Rec for Us!

Welcome to [livejournal.com profile] ds_recsredux! It's a whole new world of reccing!

Here's how it works: a new theme will be posted each week (First Time Fics! AUs! Genderfuck fics!). You post a rec for a fic that fits the theme. It's open for anyone to play! Rec one story, or do a themed set of three of your favorites, but please, no more than three recs per challenge - let other people get a chance to chime in!

Short recs telling us what to read and why are fine, and so are long reviews expounding upon your love for your favorite stories that fit the theme.

Once a week, you get a free insta-rec. If you read a fic by someone else, and love it, and think everyone else should know about it, post it here! Your insta-rec is a freebie: it doesn’t have to fit the theme.

It's low commitment, lots of fun, and a great way to pimp your favorites stories!

Specific rules: recs should be posted in the time between when the challenge is issued and the time when the challenge is formally closed.

Any rating, any pairing, any Rays, anything goes, so long as it's Due South fic. This is specific for Due South, so no Six Degrees of DS fics (Hard Core Logo, Wilby Wonderful, etc).

We’re always looking for ideas, so come forward and suggest ideas for future recs challenges in the comments of the Admin post each week!

No OT posts: all posts must be recs challenge responses. We are not a fic-finders community - see [livejournal.com profile] ds_ficfinders if you are looking for something specific.

This is a fantastic idea! Can't wait to see what people recommend, and I like the idea of inviting meta discussion about some of the stories. Because dS fic? Is totally worth it.

Superb idea! Yay!

Yay something for me to put in the recs section of [livejournal.com profile] ds_weekly.
*is pondering how she's gonna do that*

I have a request forthemed recs, and yes, it is mostly because I'm a pervert, but also because I am writing this story and want to see someone rec my work.

Religious fic.

(Yes, I know I'm going to hell now)

Getting my requests in early...

(Since I'm sure you've got the porny challenges already sorted out *g*)

I'd love to see a challenge for femslash, either particular pairings, or a more general challenge.

A Dead Bob theme.

A Dief POV theme.

There has to be a Welsh challenge of some sort.

Can we have a challenge for the most appalling fic you've ever read - limit one per customer?

Maybe a more personal challenge - the fic that converted you to a particular pairing?

Already here! You lovely, lovely gorgeous women for setting up this com *gropes you both*

I was just thinking yesterday how sad it is [livejournal.com profile] ds_recs has gone and was starting worry that a bit of a lull in the ds fandom may begin due to it’s absence. But no more! I can not wait to see this comm up and running

Oh, this is genius. Question, though: I understand the rule about Six Degrees fics, but what about crossovers?

[identity profile] ultra-chrome.livejournal.com 2006-09-29 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
Woohoo!!!! *does the Grover dance*

Best idea in the world.

oooOOOoooh.

*joins in pronto*

Doubt I'll be able to bring much to the table - but I'll do my level best!

[identity profile] riverlight.livejournal.com 2006-09-29 01:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, what fun! Great idea, both of you.

[identity profile] bertybertle.livejournal.com 2006-09-29 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool idea! I was really missing ds_recs.

How about a best three Fraser POV and Frannie POV - or best POV other than Ray, Ray or Fraser?

And as a potential recipient of a nomination for "most godawful fic" can I put in a vote that we DON'T do that? Just the thought of having someone's work ripped to shreds in public makes me whimper - no matter how bad it is.....unless it's bad!fic, then YAY! ( But make sure it IS first???? Pleeeease?)

[identity profile] riverlight.livejournal.com 2006-09-29 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, so, I get the DS-only rule—no six degrees fic, etc. But what about DS meta? I was just going through some posts I'd saved to my computer, about Fraser characterization and the F/V relationship, etc, and was thinking they might be fun to share...

[identity profile] bluealbertaskys.livejournal.com 2006-09-30 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Count me in. And thanks :D

[identity profile] llassah.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Genius idea! Count me in!
How about a 'Starter Pack' challenge? This would be a list of the classic dS fics- stuff you think is the best way to get to know the fandom, the fics that you would point a newbie to and say 'Go! Read!' that aren't limited to a specific genre/rating/pairing. (why do slashes always make me think the words are having sex? I've been warped *g*)

Since cross-overs are allowed, how about cross-over recs?

Or, I'd really love to see what would come out of a secondary characters rec - stories with Elaine, Thatcher, Mort, Turnbull, ect as main character with Ray, Ray, and Fraser either not mentioned or very secondary to the story itself.

(Also, just to second a few ideas mentioned above, the stories that got me into DS would be amazing and I would really love to see the stories that converted to a pairing, because those are just so much fun!)

Hiya. Love the new comm. I've been rereading tons of old favorites. Today I read 'What We Talk About When We Talk About Wolves' based on a ds_recsredux rec. I'd never read it before and was THRILLED to come across a "new" old dS fic. I'm wondering if there are other gems that I (and other fen) have somehow missed. So, I'd like to suggest:

1) obscure fics, a.k.a. fics that you love that you never see recced or think maybe other fen are unaware of

2) one-hit wonders - They only wrote one (or a couple) fics in dS before disappearing into the ether. And the fic was a not-to-be-missed gem.
