Dog Days of Winter, What We Talk About When We Talk About Wolves

Title: Dog Days of Winter
Author: [livejournal.com profile] pir8fancier
Pairing: Fraser/RayK
Rating: R
Length: 1,347 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: Because it's funny and Dief is micromanaging our boys' lives. Very well written, wonderful Fraser's POV. And Dief the Matchmaker is awesome!

Title: What We Talk About When We Talk About Wolves
Author: Penelope Whistle
Pairing: Fraser/RayK
Rating: PG
Length: 48k
Why I'm reccing this fic: Because it's sweet and adorable. One of my "feel good" stories. Lots of perfectly in character dialogue, subtle humour, even some hurt/comfort (poor exhausted Fraser!). And, of course, Dief loves Ray! There's an evidence!

Insta-rec: The Thrill of the Hunt

Title: The Thrill of the Hunt
Author: [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]
Character: Diefenbaker
Rating: PG
Length: 277 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: I love the way that the first impressions are clear and in-character. It has a fantastic last line. Plus, it's Dief, so it even fits the challenge this week.

No excerpt, because it's really short.

The Thrill of the Hunt

Second

Title: Second
Author: [livejournal.com profile] shayheyred
Pairing: BF/RK
Rating: PG -ish
Length: 16,000 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: Because it's Dief's narration of the whole of season 4, and the pov is wonderful: long-suffering, affectionate, a little obnoxious, a little bemused. And there's guest pov that will make you grin like a maniac.

Mangy Dog, Prepositional Frase, O My America

Title: Mangy Dog
Author: [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza
Pairing: Fraser/RayK, Fraser and Dief.
Rating: Um, PG? PG-13-ish. No sex, leastaways.
Length: 65k
Why I'm reccing this fic: I adore, adore, adore fics that compare Fraser's relationship with Ray to relationships Fraser's had with others in the past. Here, Ray is paralleled to Dief, and oh. Oh, it's brilliant.

Title: Prepositional Frase (or, Object of the Proposition)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] j_s_cavalcante
Pairing: Dief/cheese, Fraser/RayK
Rating: NC-17
Length: 6.590 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: AHAHAHAHA. In short: Fraser thinks Ray's cheating him with Dief. Dief thinks Ray promised him cheese. Ray just wants in Frase's pants.

Title: O My America (The Scientific Method Remix)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] etben
Pairing: Fraser/RayK
Rating: PG-13
Length: 2,303 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: A collection of outside POV, watching Ray and Fraser as they begin to buy a clue. Dief's voice is perfect, and his name for Ray makes me smile-smile-smile. ;)

O My America (The Scientific Method Remix)

Eight Days a Week

Title: Eight Days a Week
Author: [livejournal.com profile] bluebrocade
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: F/K
Length: 4000 words

Why I'm reccing this fic: Because when I read this at DS Seekrit Santa time I went from "Not my thing" to "One of the best stories" over the course of the first section. Because I love the section headings: Unrequited, Unglued, Understood. Because it's full of funny, moving lines and it's great to watch Fraser come unglued.

Missing Scene From Call of the Wild.

Title: Missing Scene From Call of the Wild.
Author:[profile] sharon28
Rating:
G
Pairing: None, but it features Fraser and Vecchio.
Length: Really short.

Why I'm reccing this fic:
Because it's hilarious! I wish I'd thought of it! Dief doesn't actually feature in it, but since it's a conversation about Dief, I figure it qualifies. Go read it. You only need a couple of minutes and they'll be well spent.

Missing Scene From Call of the Wild.

The Things I Do For Love, Inappropriate

Title: The Things I Do For Love
Author: Marcella Polman
Pairing: F/K
Rating: PG-13
Length: 4800 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: The whole story is told from Dief's POV and it's absolutely great. Oh, and Dief goes undercover with Ray.

A brief excerpt )

The Things I Do For Love

Title: Inappropriate
Author: [livejournal.com profile] shayheyred

Why I'm reccing this fic: It's just the cutest thing ever!

Learn to Speak Canine in Seven Easy Steps

Title: Learn to Speak Canine in Seven Easy Steps
Author: [livejournal.com profile] etcetera_cat
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: PG13
Length: medium
Why I'm reccing this fic: Because you can't mention Dief fic without this one coming up. Instant classic...brilliant Dief POV. And the conversations with Ray's turtle make me giggle like a giggling thing.

Five of Dief's Favorite Snacks, About a Dog

Title: Five of Dief's Favorite Snacks
Author: [livejournal.com profile] makesmewannadie
Pairing: None.
Rating: G
Length: Short.
Why I'm reccing this fic: MMWD calls this a "minific", and it is wee, but it's so spot-on.

Title: About a Dog
Author: [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski.
Rating: NC-17
Length: Long.
Why I'm reccing this fic: It reads like an episode, because you know the weird is always on in DS. The basic premise of this fic is that, for reasons that don't require exploring, etc., Dief has become human. It's case-fic, it's Fraser/RayK, and it's hot as hell, and it's funny, too.

Anatomically Correct

Title: Anatomically Correct
Author: [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Length: medium
Why I'm reccing this fic: So, okay, everyone knows this fic, right? It's the one that starts with the drag queen hitting on Fraser and ends up with Fraser and Ray on the couch watching curling. And then there is extremely fucking hot making out - it's honestly one of my favorite making out scenes in Due South - but my FAVORITE MOMENT is the Dief moment.

A brief excerpt )

I really, really love that a whole damn lot.

Admin Post: Diefenbaker Challenge!

Okay, darlings. This one comes to us from [livejournal.com profile] malnpudl: Dief fic! Take a look:

It wouldn't have to be Dief-centric, since I know those are (sadly) scarce, but anything with a strong, solid Dief characterization and Dief taking a significant role in the story would give me a great big happy... and perhaps even encourage more of the same.

We all know how freaking hard it is to keep track of the damn wolf when you're writing fics! Think back and give me your favorite Dief characterization, you favorite Dief moments, and your favorite Dief-centric fic!

The Dief challenge is open through Sunday, February 11th. Go forth and show us your favorite deaf half-wolf moments!
