Holiday Challenge: In the Round, Home for the Holidays, Twelve Ways to Make Ray More Canadian

Going with fics that have never been recced in this comm helped me narrow it down a little ... and I ended up with three first Christmases for RayK in Canada. :-)

Title: In the Round
Author: Moonloon ([livejournal.com profile] maryavatar)
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: PG
Length: 961 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: Here is a classic clueless!Fraser story, finally figuring things out just in time for Christmas. But what I really like is this portrayal of Ray, finding a creative outlet for his wild passions. Moonloon stated that she wanted an alternative to Ray as a mechanic, and this one's memorable.

"Why do you want to make cookies?" I asked.

Ray glared at me. "It's not Christmas without home-made cookies."

And that's when I realised that Ray was still here. Still here. Despite our adventure having finished months before. Despite Ray's job, which I assume was waiting for him back in Chicago. Despite the fact that I'd been transferred to Inuvik and the sun had set for the winter some time previously.

Ray had asked if I minded him staying on for a while, and I'd said that would be fine, and here we were. An odd pair of room-mates living in a cabin that smelled of wood shavings and wolf hair.

Why I'm reccing this fic: Fraser is only slightly less clueless in this story--he at least is doing naked things with Ray on a regular basis, but still doesn't truly understand Ray's love. Which, it turns out, is a lot like Christmas.

Fraser, now—well, it’s not like he was against Christmas, exactly, but he wasn’t exactly for it, either. Every time he’d come home to find something new adorning the walls or the window or the tree, he’d hmm and nod appreciatively, saying all the right, polite things. But he wasn’t into it, wasn’t enthusiastic.

Maybe he was just tired, or maybe it was something more. Ray knew Fraser had endured some pretty shitty Christmases as a kid; let’s face it, he wouldn’t know what a real Christmas felt like if it ran over him in a sled. On the other hand, Fraser was all about the spirit of Christmas, and not only on December 25th, but three hundred and sixty-five days a year. Yeah, if anybody could say they knew how to give to their fellow man, it was Benton Fraser.

But Christmas was about getting something back, too—presents, sure, but also all that good stuff like love and hope and faith. And Ray was starting to wonder if Fraser really understood that part of the deal.

Why I'm reccing this fic: And finally, a much happier Fraser, determined to Canadianize Ray on Christmas. This is a hilarious version of The Twelve Days of Christmas, presented in a gorgeous graphic format. Just the art alone gives you that feeling of holiday cheer! Irresistable--check out the sample:
