Going with fics that have never been recced in this comm helped me narrow it down a little ... and I ended up with three first Christmases for RayK in Canada. :-)

Title: In the Round
Author: Moonloon ([livejournal.com profile] maryavatar)
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: PG
Length: 961 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: Here is a classic clueless!Fraser story, finally figuring things out just in time for Christmas. But what I really like is this portrayal of Ray, finding a creative outlet for his wild passions. Moonloon stated that she wanted an alternative to Ray as a mechanic, and this one's memorable.

Title: Home for the Holidays
Author: [livejournal.com profile] lamardeuse
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: PG
Length: ~2000 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: Fraser is only slightly less clueless in this story--he at least is doing naked things with Ray on a regular basis, but still doesn't truly understand Ray's love. Which, it turns out, is a lot like Christmas.

Title: Twelve Ways to Make Ray More Canadian
Author: Tara R. ([livejournal.com profile] zoetrope)
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: G
Length: Er, fairly short
Why I'm reccing this fic: And finally, a much happier Fraser, determined to Canadianize Ray on Christmas. This is a hilarious version of The Twelve Days of Christmas, presented in a gorgeous graphic format. Just the art alone gives you that feeling of holiday cheer! Irresistable--check out the sample:

Title: Lucky Hat
Author: [livejournal.com profile] shoemaster
Pairing: Fraser/RayK
Rating: PG
Length: 1100 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: This cute, funny little post-COTW story is based on the prompt 'August 4-7 Midnight Sun Slo-Pitch Tourney', an (actual) Inuvik event. That's right – Ray plays baseball. Again, only this time his team knows who he is.

I'm not sure I can explain why I love this so much, except that it's fresh and simple and stealth-sweet, stealth-everything. It even made me get why people like established relationship fic. It includes a first-time flashback, which always helps, but really, the payoff here is the present day – getting a quick look at that happy ending I never really managed to picture, but it's totally real here: still a bit rickety and suspenseful and sexy, but also cheerful and ordinary and settled. It starts out quiet and laidback and then the little details pile on faster and faster until suddenly you believe completely in this town, this life, this baseball game, and this happy ending.

Title: Vibrato
Author: Salieri ([livejournal.com profile] troyswann)
Characters: Diefenbaker, Fraser, Bob Fraser, and an odd original character
Rating: G
Length: short
Why I'm reccing this fic: This has a very different Dief POV, lyrical descriptions, and forever altered my view of Bob Fraser. I used to think he was funny. Since I read this, I've realized just how disturbing a presence he is.

Title: It's Like This Old Inuvit Story I Knew
Author: [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock
Pairing: F/K
Rating: PG
Length:
Why I'm reccing this fic: Because it's Bob. And Bob is trying his best to drive Ray nuts to hurry things along.

We all have taken a chance on a story by a new author, and been glad we did! We also have read fics by well-known authors that we've never heard of before, and wondered why.

Rec us your favorite hidden gems! Something that you think maybe the rest of us missed somehow that you LOVED. There have to be some good things that we've missed, and you should take them out of your little box and show them to us!

The challenge will be open through Sunday, April 22. And, as always, we're looking for suggestions for future challenges, so drop a comment here if you have any!
