Title: Be Here Now
Author: [livejournal.com profile] serialkarma
Pairing: F/K
Rating: NC-17
Length: 755 wds
Why I'm reccing this fic: It's Fraser's POV; but even more, it's how Fraser can't get out of his own POV, no matter how he wants to. This Fraser wants to say "ass" instead of "buttocks," "cock" rather than "member." But he can't, even when it gets in the way of the physical act of love, no matter how much he wants to fuck.

And it's also about Ray and how he knows how to read Fraser, can tell when his head has pulled him back and disconnected him from the rest of the world and himself. It's about how Ray gets all of that about Fraser and knows exactly when and how to bring Fraser back.

Title: C'Mon Baby: Light My Fire
Author: [livejournal.com profile] hackthis
Pairing Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Length Total: Around 10k
Why I'm reccing this fic:

This is a fairly short AU (featuring Ray Kowalski, Fireman) and it has one of the most spot on Fraser voices I've ever encountered that is not in the first person. [livejournal.com profile] hackthis really gets inside of Fraser's head and lets us know what makes him tick. It is sweet and funny and hot and sexy. If you've missed this story by some small chance (or maybe because you are normal, unlike me, and didn't spend a month tracking down and reading every AU ever writen in the DS fandom) read it, now! It won't take you long, but it will be totally worth it!

Title: Two Men in a Boat, or Adventures on the African Queen
Author: Sihaya Black (aka [livejournal.com profile] sihayab)
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Length: 196k
Why I'm reccing this fic: Classic long AU dS story wonderfully written by amazing Sihaya Black, my favorite AU dS author. Takes place in Africa (!) during the World War 1 (remember the movie "The African Queen" with Katherine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart?). I know, it sounds scary (OMG Ray and Fraser in Africa), but don't run away if you haven't read it yet. The boys are very much in character, interesting plot, Ray as a ship's captain, Fraser as a missionary, a little bit of hurt/comfort, a little bit of angst (well, not so little ;) ), VERY hot sex. Language of the story (Fraser's speech, especially) gives a precise feeling of the time (an early 20th century). An absolute must read.

Title: Five Things to Say
Author: Purna
Pairing: F/K
Rating: R
Length: short
Why I'm reccing this fic: This story is about Fraser and books-- how they've shaped his life, and how he still depends on them to help him understand things. It's built especially around Rumi's love poetry-- each scene starts with a small excerpt, moving smoothly into the point where the poems come up in the story itself. In short, a beautifully structured story that shows Fraser from a slightly different angle than usual.

Length middle ish?
Why I'm reccing this fic: [livejournal.com profile] justbreathe80 just recced a fic by [livejournal.com profile] sprat that made me think of this gem. Really, can there be enough "Fraser masturbates while thinking about Ray" fic? While imagining Ray with a woman? Yeah, I don't think so either. Plus! Fraser is kind of creepy!hot in this, too.

Rating: NC-17

Why I'm reccing this fic: Sprat is an absolutely amazing writer, and I would recommend everything she's ever written. But if there's something she does exceptionally well, it's voices. Her Ray voice is exquisite, and I would go as far as to say that there are no better Ray voices out there. This little piece is Fraser POV, and proves that her talent with HEARING them isn't just with Ray, but with Fraser too. This is hot and lovely and SO Fraser and I just adore it.

Title: Merry Go Round
Author: [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Length: 62k
Why I'm reccing this fic: When writing Fraser's POV, it's easy to get caught up in his impressive vocabulary, seemingly limitless knowledge, and deep, brooding innner self. It's also easy to forget that he has a sneaky, dry sense of humor, and can be a snarky little bastard at times. Luckily, Speranza doesn't forget this.

Title: Scrabble
Author: [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza
Pairing NC-17
Rating: Fraser/Kowalski
Length 197K
Why I'm reccing this fic: I planned on reccing this fic as soon as I saw the challenge. Both Fraser and Ray K's POVs run side-by-side down the page. It's an experimental masterpiece. As-per-usual with [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza's fic the characters are spot on and the story is both painful and beautiful. I know [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza has already been recced this challenge but this fic is just what the challenge calls for. And I know everyone who's in the fandom has probably read all of her work already but her stories are the kind you can read again and again. And if there are any fandom newbies watching this comm they need to be told "Go read everything by [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza!"

Title: Rationale
Author: [livejournal.com profile] geekwriter143
Pairing Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Length 10K
Why I'm reccing this fic: It's absolutely scorching hot. It deals with a situation that should seem ridiculous and instead makes it believable and so very Fraser. The digressions, the subject avoidance, the thought patterns, all of it adds up to an amazing picture of Fraser.

Title: The Impossible Want
Author: [livejournal.com profile] tharaist
Pairing Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: R
Length 420 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: Because it's short and sharp and so very true. You'll really believe this is how Fraser feels and it hurts. I had tears in my eyes when I'd finished reading it. A new author, I believe, and one who should be encouraged as much as possible.

Title: Black
Author: Megan 'Fishstic' Wilkins
Pairing Fraser/Vecchio (unrequited)
Rating: PG/PG-13
Length Short, it really is a snippet
Why I'm reccing this fic: This is a dark fic because it's Fraser's thoughts which are full of self guilt and even loathing. It really fits into the idea of why he ran after Victoria and why despite everything he loved her, because of the darkness inside himself, not just her. It's also rather painful as Fraser can't tell Ray he loves him for fear of what it would do to Ray.

Title: Passion
Author: Speranza
Pairing Fraser/OMC, Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Length: long
Why I'm reccing this fic: It's almost a cliche to recommend [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza, I suppose, but I can't resist: this story is possibly my favorite due South story of all time. No, really. It's Fraser, and who he was, and how he became who he is, and what he wants and loves and needs and thinks. It goes all the way from when he's thirteen to his late 30's with Ray Kowalski; there's angst and woobieness and joy and, seriously, it makes my chest ache with love every single time. I can't think of another story that more fully shows just how much I adore this character.

Title: Acharnement
Author: A C Chapin
Pairing: Fraser/RayV
Rating: Nc-17
Length: About 5000 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: Because it's beautiful. It tells you so much in so few words, and really lets you into Fraser's head post Victoria's secret. Fraser's perspective is so well-done, with heartbreaking emotion and brainbreaking hotness.

Title: Breathless
Author: [personal profile] aerye
Pairing Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: Not rated, but it has some pretty hot kissing, so take that as you will.
Length vignette
Why I'm reccing this fic: [personal profile] aerye was one of the first authors I read in this fandom, and the fact that I still love her stories many many months (years?) later just goes to show how good they are. She gets Fraser perfectly here, showing us how he may be buttoned-up and polite but he's also physical and needy and raw, and while he may hide his feelings for Ray most of the time, man, is he intense. It's hot and gorgeous, and oh, the last line—just wonderful.

Title: Under the Skin
Author: [livejournal.com profile] sprat
Pairing Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: explicit
Length medium
Why I'm reccing this fic: I love [livejournal.com profile] sprat beyond my ability to describe. Her stories are vivid and detailed and gorgeous and almost always porny. This is no exception and the way she gets into Fraser's head kills me. It's the one that starts with the car breaking down as they're on their way to court and Ray strips off his good dress shirt and is working on the car in just his sleeveless undershirt and suit pants. He's a little sweaty and a little dirty and Fraser wants him so bad he can taste it.

This fic builds and builds as Fraser fights a losing battle against wanting Ray. It's incredibly hot - fantastic build-up, and one of my very favorite Fraser POV fics ever. God. I just re-read it and now I am entirely distracted from work.

Title: Ex Libris
Author: [livejournal.com profile] brooklinegirl
Pairing Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: R
Length medium
Why I'm reccing this fic: This is one of my very, very favorite fics ever, and the major reason why is how absolutely PERFECT this Fraser POV is. I remember being just bowled over by it, and I think my comment on it was the first I ever left. This story caused me to delurk! It's got that very distinctive, formal flavor of Fraser, but it happens entirely in his head and gets at who he IS. How much he wants, how hard it is for him to ask for it. How Fraser says so much, but has to fight to find his own words for how he feels. God. I just reread this and fell in love all over again.

Ex Libris
[identity profile] brooklinegirl.livejournal.com
Anyone who's written or read Due South fic knows just how painful challenging it can be to write good Fraser point of view. The guy wants to say "buttocks" instead of "ass," "member" instead of "cock," and "the physical act of love" instead of "fucking." He's got a very particular way of communicating and seeing the world. There's the Fraser who's snarky with his dad and with Dief, and there's the Fraser who's so often formal with the outside world.

It can be a fine balance for the writer to nail the formal, didactic tone he uses so often, as well as get a handle on that more real, human flavor that is so much a part of his character.

So, your challenge is this: rec us your favorite Fraser-POV fics. The ones that really speak to you, let you see the man behind the uniform.

The challenge will be open until late night Sunday, October 22. Remember to tag your entries! Now go out there and show us what the real Mountie is like!
