Title: Siren Song

Why I'm reccing this fic: This is a rather sweet AU in which Ray Vecchio goes north and meets a merman called Benny. There's wonderful tie-ins to what we might expect from canon, such as merman Benny having a bright red fishtail. There's a nice swap around too as it's Benny who is out of his element too. There's also a white seal called Eek who loves chocolate bars. The ending is sweet, perhaps bittersweet as they part. There is an NC-17 related sequel but this story stands nicely on it's own. A good little AU folklore twist.

brooklinegirl told me I HAD to read it, and I first I was unsure, but then I got hooked for days and days. It shouldn't make sense (Ray as a introverted, brilliant molecular biology professor and Fraser as his graduate assistant, who smokes and swears), but it DOES and it's really just amazing and awesome and addictive, and you should run and not walk to read it RIGHT NOW.

Why I'm reccing this fic: Oh, God, why. Well, 1) it's

sprat, and 2) leading from that, it's AMAZING. It's a young student Ray and an older professor-like Fraser, it's an academia AU, it's a little inappropriate, and it's a lot beautiful. Both are so perfectly in character, and fit this universe so damn well. The feeling in this fic blew me away. Fraser is tired and wired and frustrated, and Ray is interested and persistent. And they click. It's hot and a little sad and simply gorgeous.

Why I'm reccing this fic: Oh God. This is SUCH an original, fascinating, hilarious, AWESOME AU. It's takes place in Italy, 1604. No. REALLY. There's Raimundo Vecchio, and Monsieur Benedetto Frasier. There's Stanislaus the sailor, and Llewellyn, his captain. There's even a slightly cooky artist Voltabufalo (GUESS WHO) and a rather...inappropriate painting. In short, this is a fucking brilliant AU, with rather a terrific epilogue. Not a lot of people seem to know about it, and they should, thus the rec. I actually don't want to even put in an excerpt because you should just go and read it without a preview. So much better that way. *g*

Ray Kowalski is a FIREMAN and Fraser is completely hot for him to the point where he can't stop thinking about how Ray smells like smoke and wears a hot uniform and is cocky and flirty and entirely made of awesome. There's great sexual tension and making out on the couch and Fraser sniffing Ray's smoky t-shirt and it's really just ridiculously hot.

It's short - three parts, all of them sort of just snapshots - but really, REALLY hot. She's not writing in the fandom anymore, so this is probably the last we'll see of Ray Kowalski: Fireman, but STILL, just the fact that he's out there? Makes me happy.

Why I'm reccing this fic: In the light of everyone trying not to recommend Hawks and Hands (which is a very hard job, I totally agree) I feel that this fic is a little under-appreciated. It's another Hockey AU. Actually, I've read this story first, long before I found Dira's, and immediately fell in love. Hockey is very popular where I live and I watch it since childhood. So, imagine my joy when I saw this gem. Ray is a hockey player here but Ben is still a Mountie. There is quite a lot of Ray and Stella's history. Ray and Mark Smithbauer are best friends (yes, that's right). Sex is hot, angst is angsty and the writing is wonderful. Oh, and the little paper clips at the end of the story make me warm inside.

Why I'm reccing this fic: It's gorgeous. It's an AU set in Hawaii, wherein Ray is a cop on vacation, and Fraser is a geologist, studying volcanoes. One evening, a very inebriated Ray nearly falls of a cliff, and is only saved by this gorgeous guy who should be doing toothpaste commercials. (Ray calls him "Pearly" in his head before he learns his name.) Things go from there. I never really had any interest in Hawaii before reading this fic, but the stunning language describes the lushness and beauty of Hawaii with such love and perfection, it's impossible not to feel transported there, and love the stay - I never wanted to leave this fic. It's just so beautiful. This is one of my favorite AUs ever.

Everyone likes a good AU, right? Or, if you're like me, you resisted them for a VERY long time, then came to love them with a red-hot passion. Or maybe you just have one or two that REALLY do it for you.

Because, well, what isn't good about AUs? Ray and Fraser as hockey players! Fraser as a Hawaiian geologist! Ray as a dance instructor! Ray and Fraser as parents! Professor Kowalski! Ray and Fraser on the African Queen!
