It's a genre that I love. Be it Undercover in a Gay Bar or pure Gay Bar. Next up: Kinky.

1) Tilt by [livejournal.com profile] elementalv (F/K, R, ~3,100 words)
Kowalski originally visits the gay bar for burgers. Until he tilts.

2) How To Fuck In High Heels by [livejournal.com profile] ignazwisdom (F/K, R or NC 17, ~5,400 words)
Crossdressing undercover. Hot and fun.

3) Suited by [livejournal.com profile] joandarck (F/K, G, ~1,150 words)
It's Pre-Gay Bar in Welsh's Office with Welsh pov. Priceless. Also kind of hot.

4) Deep Cover by [livejournal.com profile] kijikun (F/K, ~3,000 words)
This fic has them pose as a couple and that satisfied my shallow needs. Some case!fic, too. It's witty and it gets emotionally complicated (angst). It left me wanting more.

5) Swimming With Sharks by [livejournal.com profile] nos4a2no9 (F/K, NC 17, ~38,000 words)
This story has everything. Sexual tension, angst, humor, hotness. It starts with Kowalski, undercover with Huey and Dewey. He's not in the best mood and he's in for a surprise.

6) Number Eight by Speranza[livejournal.com profile] cesperanza (F/K, ~5,000 words)
Wonderful story. Funny and suspenseful with a good case. It has great details and it's a trip to read.

Extra: Boardwalk by Kellie Matthews/[livejournal.com profile] kelliem (F/K, NC 17, ~14,500 words)
Not gay bar but undercover as rentboy and pimp. Funny, interesting, and hot casefic.

Hello, I'm your [livejournal.com profile] ds_recsredux  guest reccer for February!   *offers bannock and bark tea  to everyone*     While I'm a very enthusiastic F/K fangirl through and through, there are moments when I like to read  stories
about rare pairings.

What do I mean by rare pairings? Basically, couples who have had very few stories written about them. Throughout the month, I'll post about a specific due South character and his (or her) lesser-known partners.

Today's post is all about Fraser.

Oh, dear! )
[identity profile] green-grrl.livejournal.com
This week's turtle recs revolve around Ray's pet, as he was introduced in Spy vs. Spy:

Ray: Fraser, the wolf can't stay here.
Fraser: Why not?
Ray: Because of the. . . uh. . . turtle.
Fraser: Dief has no interest in the turtle.
Ray: The turtle and the wolf are natural enemies, Fraser. Grrr. Fighting and they. . .
Fraser [to Dief]: Stay.
Dief: [bark]
Fraser: Would you lock the door behind us?
Ruth: I'll look after your turtle.

The first time I saw Turtle in fanfic was [livejournal.com profile] elementalv's Mortal Enemies, a very short but hilarious take on the canon snippet (Gen). It never fails to make me laugh out loud! But then I do have a special weakness for fics with an animal POV. Another wonderful Turtle POV fic is [livejournal.com profile] etcetera_cat's Vibrato, which really captures life as experienced from the aquarium (very mildly Fraser/RayK).

Dief has opinions about Turtle, too. [livejournal.com profile] mizface's Natural Enemies takes on their rivalry from Dief's POV (Gen). In [livejournal.com profile] abbybanks's Different, Dief cuts Turtle a little slack, as they're both invested in what happens with their humans (very mildly Fraser/RayK).

Finally, there's Stars' latest DS Sekrit Santa fic Freaks & Geeks (To Say Nothing of the Goat) (Fraser/RayK), a slightly angsty, delightfully wacky tale told from multiple points of view, including both a Dief-POV section and a Turtle-POV section. And the household gains a new pet. :-)

Next week, RayK and Fraser's relationship, as it intersects with Turtle.

By which I mean that I was pottering around in the depths of my del.ici.ous, not doing much in particular, when I came across this story (one of the Team Whimsy entries from this year's ds_match) and went yes! This! With the funny and the characterisation and the funny and the being him and the AWESOME! (also in this category are *points down* the previous recs, which other people got the joy of going all handwavey about, so, y'know, I'm just going to second people reading those. Loudly)

Title: Shot to the Heart
Author: [livejournal.com profile] elementalv (Tara Keezer)
Rating: PG-13
Length: 5.600 words
Why I'm reccing this: uh, see the illiterate keyboard mashing with caps up there? Pretty much that, times really quite a lot. Yes, this story is humourous and whimsical, but it's also a truly marvellous picture of RayV looking at the wrold around him and maybe realising that letting some things happen may be scary, but they also have the potential to be really really good.

a brief excerpt )

Title: Ben of the Tundra
Author: Tara Keezer/[livejournal.com profile] elementalv
Pairing: F/K
Rating: PG-13
Length: ~6000 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: Okay, it's a crack AU loosely based on George of the Jungle. The Muldoon case, except Fraser never came to Chicago, Bob's still alive, Kowalski and Vecchio have been working together for a while, and solemnity is pretty much nonexistent. Read now for cozy ice houses, bodacious Canadian babes, and Ray Kowalski literally getting swept off his feet.

Title: Floating Islands are Invariably Krakens
Author: little-b/[livejournal.com profile] buzzylittleb
Pairing: F/K
Rating: PG-13
Length: ~2800 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: Apparently submarines are a necessary catalyst for some of the changes in Ray and Fraser's relationship. In this fic set during the Quest, the second sub didn't quite do its job, so the universe throws a third at them--this time with bonus sea monsters!

Floating islands are invariably Krakens

Title: Matrimony
Author: [livejournal.com profile] misspamela
Pairing: F/K
Rating: Unrated sans porn
Length: ~1300 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: I have a huge weakness for the Last to Know scenario. You know what I'm talking about, those fics where one or both halves of the couple in question don't realize they're involved until other people point it out somehow. The utter innocence of the instigating gift in this case never fails to amuse me.

Today's instalment of "fic that changed my fannish experience" concerns Ray Vecchio. I love Ray Vecchio. The thing is, I never shipped F/V, or V/K for that matter. F/K is my OTP, zomg!!eleventy!!!!11!! But ... in the right hands, F/V and V/K? Are awesome.

First up is the "Loose Affiliation" series by [livejournal.com profile] spuffyduds (scroll way down for the links) (NC-17 overall). This right here was the moment I realized that yes, Fraser could have it goin' on with Ray Vecchio. And it would be hot. (Don't get distracted by all the other insanely good fic linked in the same post, because I'll undoubtedly be reccing a couple more of them by Friday).

I don't recollect the first V/K that made me say, "Okay, yeah" but this one made me happy in a whole new way. I'm talking about the"Scenes from a Marriage" series by [livejournal.com profile] elementalv (Tara Keezer) (again, scroll down for the links) (NC-17 overall). This is V/K with a twist, a dS/Sentinel/Dresden Files fusion, as the author says (no prior knowledge of the other fandoms required), and it's funny and angsty and hot. It doesn't have a definitive ending, which makes me hope she'll come back to it someday, but it ends in a good place for now.

Finally, how do you get from OTP to OT3? In my case, you read "Mosaic, Piece by Piece" by [livejournal.com profile] china_shop (NC-17). I'd read other F/K/V before this, but this was the story that made me believe it could last. And that was pretty tough to do, because my idea of F/K/V runs more along the lines of [livejournal.com profile] spuffyduds's "One Two Three Two One" (also available from her links page).

Enjoy the stories, feed the authors, and come back on Friday for a grab-bag of other fic that made me go "Hmmn."

*Screeches to a halt and looks around*

Have I made it in time? Have I? Have I missed it? Do I suck yet?

Ok well the new challenge hasn't gone up and I haven't seen these fics recced yet so I'm going to hope I made it in time for the Amnesty Challenge cos I was lame and completely missed the "Fics of my Heart" Challenge the first time 'round *head/desk*

I can't do pretty links so you'll have to bear with me whilst I regale you with copy+paste html I'm afraid.

Took me the past 2/3 weeks to narrow my choices down to just three for the Amnesty Challenge and hence the main reason I was late to it the first time but I've come up with the three I return to read the most.

Title: Ping
Author: [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza
Pairing: RayK/Fraser
Rating: NC-17
Length: 41k
Why I'm reccing this fic: Because I adore it. The fact that Ray believes he's missed his chance, the semi-stalkerish side that we know Ray has and the fact that Ray K's "voice" is just perfect here. This just got to me and refused to budge from my memory and is one of the first stories I think of when I think of due South fanfiction. I love all of [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza's fic but this one is one of the first I read and is definitely my fave.

Title: Tilt
Author: [livejournal.com profile] elementalv
Pairing: RayK/Fraser
Rating: R
Length: 3300 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: This is what I call my feel-good fic. The one I return to when I'm feeling low or rather "meh" and need something I know will cheer me up. It was written for one of the [livejournal.com profile] getfraserlaid prompts and I adore it. The idea of Fraser in a gay bar amuses me greatly and Ray being considered someone's "little sister" still had me laughing for ages after re-reading it for the umpteenth time. And the line about Fraser and a social life is one of the best lines ever

Title: Losing My Religion
Author: [livejournal.com profile] au_kestrel
Pairing: RayK/Fraser
Rating: NC-17
Length: 348K
Why I'm reccing this fic: One of the first things I did when I got into this fandom was to hunt out a central archive and get a feel for the writing and style for the authors in it. I found the due South Archive at http://squidge.org/dsa/ (for any newbies who haven't found it yet :D) and, me being me, promptly went off to find my favourite kind of fic. The Epic! I love huge fics. Something I can really sink my teeth into and lose myself in. Especially in cold weather when I want to stay in the warm and curl up with a brilliant fic. Someone else has already recced Anonymous-co's "Busted" (and it's sequel) for this challenge I believe and so I want to point you in the direction of [livejournal.com profile] au_kestrel's "Near Wild Heaven" Series the first part of which is actually "Three Christmases" but the first epic part of which is "Losing My Religion". I love this fic completely. The characters are spot on and everyone's included, the sex is h.o.t and it's lovely and long and plotty.

These three may well be amongst my top five faves but there are many wonderful stories in this fandom (and the authors for writing them) and I thank you all for helping to make the due South fandom my favourite fandom of all.

(Hope I've done this right. This is my first time posting recs like this. Given it's technically Monday mods, feel free to delete if I've done something wrong by posting so late.)

I'm maybe bending the rules here because both of my recs are for series. But that's sort of just like many chapters to one story, right? Umm, yeah... Look - shiny!

Title: How Many Ways (and sequels) a.k.a. Carrie Universe
Author: [livejournal.com profile] pearl_o
Pairing: RayK/Fraser
Rating: PG
Length: various/short
Why I'm reccing this fic: There are two main stories Pearl has written about Carrie and her fathers and a whole lot of snippets in between. Truly a universe, Pearl has created a whole life and history for these three that I just want to snuggle.

Title: A Common Life (and sequels)
Author: Tara Keezer (a.k.a. [livejournal.com profile] elementalv)
Pairing: RayK/Fraser
Rating: varies
Length: short
Why I'm reccing this fic: How can you not love a story where Ray has nicknamed his daughter Lugnut? Tara writes "real" - her kid is a real kid and the family problems are real problems. And I love this world to bits and hope that more will come someday ::waits patiently::

Title: Dressing Down
Author: [livejournal.com profile] elementalv A.K.A Tara Keezer
Pairing: Paul/Callum - RPS
Rating: NC-17
Length: Short
Why I'm reccing this fic: I don't normally read RPS but I stumbled across this by accident and it is HOT! It is kinky, but very believable and quite amusing.

Oh, and Paul wears a Catholic School girl's outfit. Check it out, you know you want to.

Title: Tilt
Author: [livejournal.com profile] elementalv
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: R
Length: Shortish?
Why I'm reccing this fic: The prompt from the [livejournal.com profile] getfraserlaid challenge was "Ray K. and Fraser meet in a low-key gay bar" what's not to love? And Ray is the "little sister" of the gay men. <3

Title: Some Advantages of Plans A, B, and C
Author: [livejournal.com profile] j_s_cavalcante
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17

Why I'm reccing this fic: This was for the [livejournal.com profile] out_of_con_txt challenge. Little 1000 word or less ficlets written in a week... It's four times the fun and so hot. And Ray is all hypothermic blithering and Fraser's all woried...
