Title: A Passing Feeling
Author: Zillah ([livejournal.com profile] visionshadows)
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: PG-13
Length: 111k
Why I'm reccing this fic: This is one of my favourite post-CotW fics. Fraser, Ray, and their 2 kids visit Chicago for Ray's mom's funeral. It's a beautiful, kind of sad, complicated story full of angst and subtle humour. We get to meet Ray's brother and father. And I simply adore little Emma and Gabriel, Zillah made them irresistibly cute but nevertheless very much "real life" kids.

Title: Song of Experience
Author: [livejournal.com profile] sanyin
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: PG-13
Length: 6143 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: This is an AU story where Ray and Stella have a 15-year-old daughter. Need I say more? Imagine RayK dealing with a rebellious teenager! Not sold yet? Well, there're Ray's amazing parenting skills, slightly out of his depth Fraser and one awesome original character named Blanche/Button/B. Overall, it's a wonderfully written story with brilliant characterizations. A great read!

Title: For Better, For Worse
Author: [livejournal.com profile] china_shop
Pairing: Kowalski/Vecchio
Rating: R
Length: 30k
Why I'm reccing this fic: For reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture Ray Vecchio is pregnant. Yes, it's mpreg! But don't let this scare your precious minds, darlings! For one, it's China_shop, have you ever read anything not brilliant by her? Yeah, I know, stupid question. *g* And it's not even a crack!fic, which is kind of expected with this premise. It's a wonderful story with patented Kowalski/Vecchio snark, freaked-out RayK and cranky Vecchio. Plus it's totally CUTE and AWWWW and THE BOYS LOVE EACH OTHER SO MUCH! Not to mention the whole Stanley/Pigface thing... Just read it, OK?! :)

Title: Playing Wolf
Author: Kellie Matthews ([livejournal.com profile] kelliem)
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Length: 517K
Why I'm reccing this fic: It's hard to talk about this fic without spoiling too many plot twists. Suffice it to say, it's a long tale rooted in Ray and Fraser's relationship, living together in Chicago a few years after their adventure. People and events reconnect Fraser to his youth in the Northwest Territories, and new acquaintances eventually expand their family across two countries and multiple generations. The story is flavored with police action, Ray and Fraser married love and Inuit culture and history, though not much in the way of little kid kid!fic. But children, parenting, family and babies are all part of the story.

Playing Wolf

Title: Penny Serenade
Author: Colleen Kane
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: PG
Length: 4,250 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: This is pure, unadulterated kid!fic, with glimpses of how Fraser and Ray came to adopt, and all the attendant trials and joys of being the parents of a willful toddler. Poor Fraser, subjected to kid logic! He gets a tad frustrated. Ray rolls with the toddler mind fairly well, but has his own hurdles to face.

Title: Family Portrait
Author: Journey
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Length: 446K
Why I'm reccing this fic: This is an AU in which Stella dies, leaving Ray with their two small children. Two years later, when he meets Fraser, Fraser slips under the shell of isolation Ray has drawn around himself and his family. Journey gets those subtle differences that Ray the single dad would have -- a little less "kick in the head" and a lot more pragmatic. She also does a great job of portraying a Fraser who has never found a true sense of place, and is unsettled about the connections the two small children and their father seem to form with him so easily. The story leans towards babysitter!Fraser versus crimefighter!Fraser, but the emotional plot is a winner.

Title: (This Must Be) The Place
Author: [livejournal.com profile] mrsronweasley
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Length: 4,600
Why I'm reccing this fic:

Fraser and Ray as parents! Really, do I need to say anything more than that? But if you do, I don't think I need to go any farther than their kids - so endearing and true to life. And also some really hot sex!

(This Must Be) The Place

Title: Popularity
Author: [livejournal.com profile] jasmasson
Pairing: pre Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: PG-13
Length: 3,792
Why I'm reccing this fic:

This is a kidfic in the sense that this is a high school AU. And it is so delightful! I am in love with the high school versions of everyone that [livejournal.com profile] jasmasson has created, but especially young Fraser. I can just see these versions waiting to grow up and become the characters that we all know and love!

Title: Beautiful Thing
Author: [livejournal.com profile] justbreathe80
Pairing: Fraser/OFC
Rating: NC-17
Length: 2267
Why I'm reccing this fic:

Fraser in high school, and his first time ... everything. Having a girlfriend, having sex, breaking the rules. It is a joy to catch a glimpse of Fraser at that age, and is more hot than it has any right to be!

Title: And Indeed There Will Be Time
Author: [livejournal.com profile] riverlight
Length: Longish
Rating: PG
Why I’m Reccing This Fic:

Okay, so this was my Seekrit Santa gift from last year. And yes, I requested kidfic. Because [livejournal.com profile] riverlight is made of awesome she came up with this warm, bittersweet story that isn't quite kidfic. Instead it's about an epiphany (well, okay, two of 'em) when Ray realizes that it's possible to have even more than everything he's always wanted. There's a moment in here when everything shifts and the world opens up and Ray emerges a changed man; here's a little taste of that.

Title: "Ray and Sunshine sounds like a disco band, Fraser, so come up with something else" and its sequel Sex and Cartoons
Author: [livejournal.com profile] omphale23 and [livejournal.com profile] slidellra
Length: 6300 words total
Rating: PG-13 (first part) NC-17 (second part)
Why I’m Reccing This Fic:

Well, not only do [livejournal.com profile] omphale23 and [livejournal.com profile] slidellra rock my world (seriously, have you read their AU Masquerade?) but when these two take on kid!fic it's kid!fic as it should be done: realistic, funny, sweet, and a little bit gross. Ugh, ketchup in the salt shaker *shiver*. And also there is sex. And cartoons, if titles are to be trusted.

Title: The Koosh Series
Author: [livejournal.com profile] mondschien1
Length: Four-part series (~8000 words total)
Why I’m Reccing This Fic: Fraser and Ray. Adopt an alien. Who looks like this. And the alien-kid is sorta like a pet, and this whole series is surprisingly moving and silly and wonderful. I'm sure you've all read it, but if not, do yourself a favour and check it out.

Title: Sunday's Child
Author: [livejournal.com profile] dsudis
Pairing: Frannie/Kowalski, Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Length: ~13,600 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: I know this story is something special because it has het, and a baby, and yet I love every second of it. It's wonderfully Ray-centric in a way that most stories with pairings are not; while I love reading about Ray's obsession with Fraser, in this story Ray's loneliness and tenderness are all the more compelling for being less focused on a single object. It's sweet but not mushy, and despite the depth of emotion expressed it has great humor and never feels too heavy. And just in case there is any doubt (because I know I'd be wondering after this emo-centric review): yes, there's Fraser/RayK sex.

I'm maybe bending the rules here because both of my recs are for series. But that's sort of just like many chapters to one story, right? Umm, yeah... Look - shiny!

Title: How Many Ways (and sequels) a.k.a. Carrie Universe
Author: [livejournal.com profile] pearl_o
Pairing: RayK/Fraser
Rating: PG
Length: various/short
Why I'm reccing this fic: There are two main stories Pearl has written about Carrie and her fathers and a whole lot of snippets in between. Truly a universe, Pearl has created a whole life and history for these three that I just want to snuggle.

Title: A Common Life (and sequels)
Author: Tara Keezer (a.k.a. [livejournal.com profile] elementalv)
Pairing: RayK/Fraser
Rating: varies
Length: short
Why I'm reccing this fic: How can you not love a story where Ray has nicknamed his daughter Lugnut? Tara writes "real" - her kid is a real kid and the family problems are real problems. And I love this world to bits and hope that more will come someday ::waits patiently::

Title: Unfinished Kid Fic
Author: [livejournal.com profile] dsudis
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: would've been NC-17
Length: Long
Why I'm reccing this fic: I know most of you clicked away when you saw "unfinished," and to be completely honest, I know Dira, and it's really never going to be finished, which is why she put it up for WIP Amnesty. But, that said, it's 27,800 words as it stands right now. And it's a good, solid read, and you can see where she would have gone with it and why it would have taken 150,000 words to get there.

You get a great, great look at Fraser and Ray's relationship as they are edging towards being more than friends. You get a wonderful look at all of Fraser's issues over being in charge, being responsible, and taking care of a KID. It's post-CotW, and the kid is Fraser's half-brother, and Dira just does this really tremendous job here setting up what it would be like, what it would do to both Fraser and Ray's lives to have a kid there, suddenly, and it's just fucking fantastic.

And I don't even LIKE kids. Or WIPs.

A brief excerpt )

Over 27,000 words. And it's wonderful.

Hello? Anyone out there?

[listens to the pretty echo for a while]

Huh. Guess I’ll make the first recs this week.

Title: Beguiled
Author: Rhi Marzano
Rating: NC-17
Length: Short Story
Why I’m Reccing This Fic: It’s not just because Fraser’s kid is named Giles. This story has the best intro of an OC I’ve ever seen anywhere, and on top of that, Rhi Marzano has the best Ray K. voice I’ve ever read.

Excerpt from Beguiled )

Title: With Six You Get Eggroll
Author: Speranza
Rating: Not, but I would give it a PG-13
Length: Novella
Why I’m Reccing This Fic: This is the first kid!fic I ever read in *any* fandom that was actually worth the time I spent on it. Speranza took the CotW epilogue, tossed it into a blender, and out popped this lovely gem. Great Ray voice, great Fraser voice. Vecchio comes off as a little bit more of an ass than I think he actually is, but that’s a minor part of the story.
