Title: There's No Good Time to Discuss This
Author: [livejournal.com profile] omphale23
Pairing: F/K
Rating: PG-13
Length: 2470 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: It's a dense, complicated fic that rewards re-reading, but still manages to feel spare and tight rather than florid or overwritten. She weaves in song lyrics and film dialogue (excellent 'guess that line' material), and often funny parenthetical asides, all of which contribute to a fabulous rhythm and a nifty layered effect. But all that complexity is in aid of a very human, very sympathetic look at a romance; doubts, difficulties, lust, leaps of faith and all.

Title: History
Author: [livejournal.com profile] lipstickcat
Pairing: F/K
Rating: G
Length: 100 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: How to rec a drabble? I don't want to talk about content (although it's very similar in scope to the story recced above. Huh.) It's a gorgeous bit of writing, packs a surprising emotional punch, and always makes me smile and say, "Yeah. Exactly."

Title: Learn to Speak Canine in Seven Easy Steps
Author: [livejournal.com profile] etcetera_cat
Pairing F/K
Rating: PG-13
Length 7000 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: Dief's POV on Fraser and RayK's cluelessness about each other. Etcetera-cat definitely needed a rec here, because this is her first Due South story. It is absolutely hilarious and wonderful - and has one of the best last sentences I have ever read!

Title: A Smile Is Worth a Thousand Words
Author:[livejournal.com profile] pir8fancier
Pairing F/K
Rating: R?
Length Medium
Why I'm reccing this fic: Phone sex. Truth or Dare. Pretty much all dialogue and she has the voices spot on. And, oh yes, we need to encourage her to write more!

Authors: [livejournal.com profile] bertybertle
Pairing: F/K
Rating: NC-17
Length: 154 K
Why I'm reccing this fic: Because it's wonderfully written, heartbreaking and realistic - all of this could happen. It just got to me from the get-go.

Title: Waiting To Fall
Author: [livejournal.com profile] mrsronweasley
Pairing: Fraser Kowalski
Rating: NC-17 (and it should come with a flammable tag)
Length: Just under 2,000 words, I think
Why I'm reccing this fic: Because there's no mucking about. It start out seriously hot and stays that way, without letting up for a minute. A must read for those with a bondage kink. Keep a fire extinguisher handy.

Waiting To Fall

Title - Hawk and Handsaw
Author - [livejournal.com profile] llassah
Pairing - Fraser/Geoffrey Tennant (Slings and Arrows)
Rating - NC-17
Length:375 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: Because it's hot, and it's twisted and oh, so very beautiful. I have immense admiration for writers who can pull off so much feeling in so few words.

Title: Seven Deadly Sins
Author: [livejournal.com profile] lucifercircle
Parings: Various mentioned/implied.
Rating: R – For sexual situations.
Length: 700 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: Because, even though I'm down as beta on this one, I didn't do anything. It was perfection the first time I saw it. There are exactly 100 words on each sin and each and every word packs a wallop.

Title: Practical Diplomacy
Author: [livejournal.com profile] mrsronweasley
Pairing: K/F
Rating: NC-17
Length: 14,000 words

Why I'm reccing this fic: I'm a sucker for academic AUs, and this reads right--both as a retelling of the characters, and as a fictional description of academia. Plus, I love the dead!Bob moments. The idea of Ray as a successful professor, complete with side projects and advisees, is really well done here, as is Fraser's awkwardness and idealism as a grad student.

Finally, did I mention the hot sex?

Title: Black Ice
Author: [livejournal.com profile] keerawa
Pairing: Gen (maybe F/K pre-slash)
Rating: Teen
Length: 2,900 words

Why I'm reccing this fic: Fraser's voice, complete with his ability to notice detail, is beautiful in this. There's a richness of description and a melancholy that comes through it that really works for such an introspective piece.

Brief Excerpt )

Black Ice

Title: Mixing
Author: [livejournal.com profile] slidellra
Pairing: F/K
Rating: R
Length: 2,300 words

Why I'm reccing this fic: I love short and sweet and hot GTO sex. And confused Ray, and sneaky Fraser, and the use of minor characters to push the two of them together. Lucky for me, this has all of the above. Plus, Ray's lines are spot on.

Title: Blue Bell
Author: [livejournal.com profile] thehousekeeper
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: PG-13 (There's none given by the author, so I'm guessing)
Length: 500ish words
Why I'm reccing this fic: This is a series of 5 linked drabbles. Ray K POV. It is heart-wrenching and painfully beautiful. It is sad, so be warned, but you do need to read it because Ray's emotions shine through so clearly in the writing. This author can actually make you feel what the character is feeling.

No excerpt since it's so short.

Blue Bell

Title: Gifts And Burdens
Author: [livejournal.com profile] ultra_chrome
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Length: 10,245 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: I may be biased because I helped beta this fic, but I think it is absolutely awesome. Written for [livejournal.com profile] getfraserlaid this is an epic Fraser POV. Set during Asylum it shows both missing scenes and Fraser's POV on scenes we do see. Fraser's voice is spot on and his emotions feel very authentic. The poetry theme running trough the fic links all the scenes together nicely and the sex is very hot.

A brief excerpt )

Title: Paint By Numbers
Author: by [livejournal.com profile] mrsronweasley
Pairing Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: G
Why I'm reccing this fic: I think she really captures what could be a scene out of the show. It's Fraser, shot, and Ray in the hospital, waiting to find out if he's okay. Liz takes what could easily be an over-the-top, overly emotional scene, and keeps it very firmly in character. You can feel Ray's frustration, his worry, building throughout. It's short, and very powerful, and very, very Kowalski.

I have no excerpt, because it's a tiny fic and every part is important.

Title: Ray's Secret
Author: By [livejournal.com profile] janne_d
Pairing Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: R? NC-17? Dirty, anyway
Why I'm reccing this fic: Okay, so you might know how I have this bulletproof genderfuck kink. What I didn't know was that that encompasses well-done cross-dressing fic, and this one hits, just, god, every one of my kinks. Because it's just - completely in character, totally Ray, except he, uhm, likes to wear panties. And Fraser finds out. Trust me on this one - it's just insanely hot. Okay - how about you at least trust me enough to click the cut-tag, because Ray in worn jeans and panties = HOT.

Title: It Takes Three to Tango
Author: By [livejournal.com profile] lordessrenegade
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski/Vecchio
Rating: NC-17
Why I'm reccing this fic: God. Established-relationship threesome fic. Ray Kowalski wants to go out dancing. Ray Vecchio and Fraser watch him dance. Them watching him? Is, perhaps, hotter than any porn I have ever read. God, the lead-up to the, uh, culmination on the dance floor turns me on hard. Look:

Title: Wrong/Crazy
Author: [livejournal.com profile] capella_fic
Pairing Ray/Ray
Rating: R/NC-17
Length short
Why I'm reccing this fic: I am absolutely in love with [livejournal.com profile] capella_fic's writing, and this series of Ray/Ray fics in particular. For someone who claims to have an F/K OTP issue, her Ray/Ray is just awesome. It's hot, and they are so THEM, and, god, these two fics include a little bit of genderfuck and Ray Kowalski in makeup and smooth, sexy, a little bit dangerous Vecchio, and DANCING. I hope she keeps going with this, because it is just that good.

Title: Just Like Saying Don't Think of Pink Elephants
Author: [livejournal.com profile] lordessrenegade
Pairing Fraser/Kowalski/Vecchio
Rating: NC-17
Length medium...I don't know!
Why I'm reccing this fic: I am one of [livejournal.com profile] lordessrenegade's number one fans. She came to us from Sports Night, and she is one of my very favorite DS writer. I really could have recced any of her fic, because I love it all, but I chose this one because, well, it's F/K/V, which she does SO well, and it's just gorgeous and hot and all the voices are perfect. She's a fantastic writer who can pack so much into a short, smutty fic, and I love her for it.

Title: Severely Provoked
Author: [livejournal.com profile] kalpurna
Pairing Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Length tiny but awesome!
Why I'm reccing this fic: This was an entry in [livejournal.com profile] stop_drop_porn a few months back, and I was just completely bowled over by it. It packs a huge punch with so few words, and it's one that I reread all the time. This is everything a good PWP should be: ridiculous hot, completely in-character, and absolutely gorgeously written. Dangerous Fraser, desperate-to-be-fucked Ray...YUM.

Title: Thank You, Kindly.
Author:Pepe
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Length - no idea - what's 215 k in metric???
Why I'm reccing this fic: 1. Because is gives good Ray! 2. Because this is her first Due South fic and I'd like her to write more. 3. Because Ray has issues...I love a Ray with issues. 4. Because it has a yummy sex scene or two in it. 5. Because she hasn't read a whole lot of fanfic, so this is how SHE sees them. 6. Because Fraser doesn't do the right thing for once. 7. Because she's a stickler for emotion and her work is always full of it.

Author: [livejournal.com profile] raggedass_road
Pairing Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Length 11k
Why I'm reccing this fic:

1) Ray's a pilot in this.
2) There's angst. A lot of angst.
3) There's also sex. In a bushplane!

Title: Great White Nothing
Author: [livejournal.com profile] ignazwisdom
Pairing Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Length 6.5k
Why I'm reccing this fic:

Fraser belongs to Canada and Ray belongs to Chicago. This fic is not a very happy one, as they try to figure out what's what during COTW (warning for alternate ending). [livejournal.com profile] ignazwisdom did a helluva job with this one, although I'm more one for the "happily ever after" fics.

Title: After
Author: [livejournal.com profile] joandarck
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: PG (though that's been questioned by some *g*)
Length: 1400 words
Why I'm reccing this fic:

This fic was posted right around the time that [livejournal.com profile] con_txt was happening, so some may have missed it, and that is a real shame. Even though Joan isn't a new new writer, as she's been in fandom for a little over a year (I think? she was here before me, anyway), this is a fandom that's been around for ten years, and everything is relative. A new voice is always a good thing, and Joan has an incredibly distinctive, crisp, fresh style that is evocative, stunningly lyrical, and tends to blow me away each time. This fic is no exception. It's what happens after, a little during, and in the beginning. The voices are perfect, and the language is breathless, with no word wasted, no word out of tune.

[Unknown site tag]Title: Or, the Whale
Author: [personal profile] leda_speaks
Pairing: Fraser/Vecchio
Rating: G
Length: 1k

Why I am reccing this fic:

Besides the fact that this holds great sentimental value as being the fic that converted me to Fraser/Vecchio, there are just so many good things about this story. The beauty of the surrealness of the dream, the Moby Dick references, and the goofy looking smile that the ending puts on your face and keeps there throughout the day. It is an amazing example of what a good author can do to create a mood with a small amount of words.

Or, The Whale
[Unknown site tag]Title: Unbroken
Author: [profile] capella_fic
Pairing: Fraser/Spike
Rating: NC-17
Length: 8k

Why I am reccing this fic:

I really struggled to pick a favorite among all of her stories, because I don't think that I have read a single one that I haven't liked. But in the end, I chose this one because it is the best of them all. This is a crossover with Buffy the Vampire Slayer and is set post-CotW and during season 4 of Buffy. Everytime I re-read this story, it fills me with awe. She absolutely nails all of the voices, especially Spike. It is beautiful, heart-breaking, and humorous. And despite the pairing, (And the amazingly hot sex) this is really a story about Fraser and Ray K and Spike simply offering his own peculiar brand of relationship therapy. It is a story about love, and forgiveness and second chances. And, you know, Spike/Fraser with handcuffs. That is a really nice icing on this already wonderful cake. *g*

Title:A Man of Justice
Author: [livejournal.com profile] mistressace
PairingFraser/Lex Luthor, RayK
Rating: Adult
Length ~18K words
Why I'm reccing this fic: I have absolutely no shame about reccing this even though I'm this fic's beta. It's Mistress Ace's first DS fic, and don't let the crossover pairing scare you off. You don't need to know Smallville canon.

Written for the [livejournal.com profile] getfraserlaid challenge (details in the Author's summary), this pairing may seem impossible but Mistress Ace lays the groundwork beautifully, gets Fraser laid awesomely, and explains what happened to the Fraser/RayK OTP. It's a little painful, but a lot hopeful.

Title: Push and Push and Push Til It Hurts, and Restoration: What's Lost Is Found
Author: [livejournal.com profile] catwalksalone
Pairing Ray/Ray
Rating: NC17
Length ~2000 words and ~4500 words
Why I'm reccing these fics:

Cat's a Sports Night writer who's recently started writing Due South. These are the first two parts in a trilogy, the third of which is going to be written for [livejournal.com profile] vecchiofest, and in these parts, she breaks Ray Kowalski and then starts putting him back together. Her Kowalski voice is brilliant, especially in the second one, and her descriptions are gorgeous. So go, read and enjoy!

Welcome to our very first challenge here at [livejournal.com profile] ds_recsredux!

What we have for you this week is the New Writers Challenge! We want you to rec fics by (relatively) new writers. Due South is a fandom that's, what, over a decade old? We're talking writers who are pretty new to the fandom. Someone who hasn't been recced a lot, someone who has emerged in the past six months or so, someone who is new to the fandom, or from another established fandom.

One of the very best things about Due South as a fandom is that there is constantly new blood. There are always new writers entering the fandom and giving us amazing fic. With the constant influx of writers, there are always some fics we may have missed along the way, from writers we don't know, and this is your chance to turn the spotlight on them!

So you have from now until midnight Sunday, October 8th, to post your favorite fics from new writers! Remember, three recs per challenge, plus one free insta-rec! See the profile for rules and formatting, and please remember to tag your recs!

Any ideas for future challenges, comm suggestions, or any questions that you have, comment on this post!
