Spaceships & Secret Identities (Or, three places Ray Kowalski hasn't been and one he has.)
***
Well, this is it, kids. But I thought I'd try and go out with a bang, or at least an explosion of some sort.
1. Stargate Atlantis.
I know almost nothing about this fandom, other than there is a guy named Joe with experimental hair and a guy named Rodney who is whiny and Canadian and they are very, very gay. Sometimes they are gay together.
Also, Claudia Black and Ben Browder were on the show, but not as their Farscape characters.
However, I did promise that we would visit other planets in this set, and I like this ficlet an awful lot, even if I'm not entirely sure what the hell is going on.
Searching for Benton Fraser, by
apetslife. No warnings, although watch out for the crack.
"Get that gun out of my face or I will kick you in the head."
As introductions go, this isn't actually the strangest that John Sheppard's ever heard, but it's close. The alarms had gone off, unauthorized entry through the gate. Shutdown the gateroom, yada yada, guns at the ready, yada. And then what had come through...
A skinny guy with...okay, Sheppard thinks, he's got great hair, but still, he looks kind of psycho and he's waving a handgun around and threatening people, and that kind of thing just can't go on.
2. Firefly.
Once upon a time, Joss Whedon decided that a cheerleader who fought vampires wasn't wacky enough, and what he'd really always wanted to write was a spaghetti western set in the future, out in space where people randomly spoke Chinese and sometimes wore funny hats.
Because he is Joss Whedon, he got his wish. Firefly was fabulous and funny and got really sort of fucked over by the network in a spectacular way.
But this is not that story. This is the story of a girl visiting earth, and her love for Ray Kowalski's car.

dsudis. G, Ray/Kaylee implied.
Ray stares into the fridge for a minute, then shrugs and takes two beers out. Anybody wants to give him shit for serving a minor, they can try and figure out how old she is. According to her ID, she's going to be underage for the next 537 years, and when Ray asked her how old she was, she rattled off numbers ranging from sixteen to thirty-seven, "standard" and "planetary" and "homeworld" and "alliance" and "Cap'n says on the paperwork."
3. Men With Guns.
Another C6D crossover, this time with a movie that is not quite as terrible as Aspen Extreme, although I wouldn't say much more than that. I love it despite being well aware of the flaws, because a)Mamet dancing, b) I like movies with fucked up characters and guns, and c) did I mention Mamet dancing?
Anyway. I think what I love most about MWG is the fabulous fic that people have written for it. And one of my absolute favorites is this crossover, which features a very difficult recasting of the film using Fraser and Ray Kowalski. it's managed beautifully, and even if you dislike the movie (gratuitous violence and drug use aren't for everyone, I suppose) give the rewrite a try.

brigantine1. F/K, PG-13.
Mamet is better at math than pretty much everybody expects him to be.
Any of the local dealers he might have asked before Hendrickson went down are either scooped up or scattered, so Mamet starts with Rob, who's the kind of guy who tends to be a step ahead. Mamet respects that in a man. Rob, he knows Eddie and Richie from way back. Eddie, Rob says, will probably be the death of Richie some day.
Mamet's got no illusions that if he can bring down Horace Burke that'll fix the world. Without Horace Burke and his weird nephew Mickey Toronto will not be free of bad people, or of illegal drugs, or sadness, or poverty, or rain, and parents will not be any better able to tuck their kids in at night and know they're safe.
But if he can keep enough of himself intact to nail Burke before he goes, that would be great.
And a bonus rec, just because you're all my favorites:
4. Starship Troopers/Sgt. Preston of the Yukon.
Now, before you get all excited, this is not exactly a dS crossover. But it features a talking dog, and a Mountie from the Yukon who is, FRTDNEATJ, in space, and also Starship Troopers. I couldn't pass that up.
Ichneumon, by camwyn. Gen, PG.
The man who had been speaking wore the uniform of the Terran military, but it wasn’t an MI suit. Jack didn’t recognize the insignia on his collar - some kind of line and loop, like a child’s drawing of a spoon - but the rest of the russet-haired man’s markings were clear enough. A set of gold pips, a first lieutenant’s bars, enough duty pins to cover an entire hand of space- this was an experienced officer, whatever he was. His light blue eyes were fixed on Jack, and his face bore an expression of concern.
Not quite able to hold the lieutenant’s gaze, Jack turned and shot a glance around the room. It could have been a room in a military base, or it could have been ship-borne; he didn’t know, couldn’t tell. It didn’t matter. The walls were brown, a fair approximation of wood panelling; the floor, black, shot through here and there with grey or brownish streaks. There were bookshelves along one of the room’s narrow walls, opposite the door. There was a desk, a chair, a data station - a painting, very small, of some snowy tree-covered God-forsaken landscape-
"Mr. Watson?" asked the Lieutenant quietly. "Are you sure you’re all right?"
So. It's been fun, thanks for reading, and everyone should feel free to add crossover recs that I've omitted in the comments. There are tons of great ones out there, and unfortunately I couldn’t include even a small subset of the stories I love in a short set of posts. Plus, I never know if I'm missing the Best Crossover Ever.

Tara Keezer's Soul Surrender (http://www.elementalvision.org/soulsurrender.html) (Due South/Battlestar Galactica. Fraser/RayK, Fraser/Leoben). Such an incredibly written bringing together of the two worlds. Plus Surrender (the end that crowns the pain Remix) (http://community.livejournal.com/remixredux08/51972.html) by
Lucy's People and Their Rocks 1 (http://lucyhale.livejournal.com/97358.html) 2 (http://lucyhale.livejournal.com/97767.html) (Due South/Wilby Wonderful. Duck/Dan, Fraser/RayK). Perfectly melds the two fandoms into a fabulous ending for both.
And Isis's If You Can See Where You're Going (http://hieroglyfics.net/wwds.htm) (Due South/Wilby Wonderful. Frannie/Buddy) gives Frannie that happy ending she needs, though she has to earn it honestly.
Littera Abactor and Makesmewannadie's The Cetacean Situation (http://www.livejournal.com/users/littera_abactor/2701.html) (Due South/Spiderman 2. Fraser/RayK) was the first Due South fic I ever read, and still one of my favorites. ♥
I also cackle hilariously at Spuffyduds' Call of the Weird (http://spuffyduds.livejournal.com/104956.html), Due South/Kingdom of the Spiders. Crackity, B movie-bashing crack!
