A little drive-by rec

Title: Jonah
Author: khaleesian
Pairing: Fraser, RayK
Rating: PG13
Story link: Jonah

I just read this story and I really liked it and the way the writer has with words, and I thought why not rec it here.

The guys are on a stake-out, RayK is trying to read "Moby Dick" but gets hung up on the sleeping arrangements of some of the characters, meanwhile Fraser decides that "10.00 AM is too early to succumb to despair". His fellow detectives make Ray "lubricated with rage" and Fraser "visualizes his words as an avalanche burying the three of them and cooling them down".

There is also Ghost!Daddy and RayK petting a whale.

Go read it!

Insta-rec: "Five Years Ago And Three Thousand Miles Away"

Title: "Five Years Ago And Three Thousand Miles Away"
Author: [livejournal.com profile] abbybanks
Pairing: Fraser/RayK
Rating: G
Length: 300 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: This is a perfect snippet of pure, undiluted angst. If you think it's impossible to tell a real story in 300 words, take a minute to read this one, and let it sink in.

Insta-rec: "Benton's earliest memories are of stories"

Title: Benton's earliest memories are of stories
Author: [livejournal.com profile] omphale23
Pairing: gen
Rating: G
Length: 200 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: [livejournal.com profile] omphale23 posted this snippet, unremarked and unnamed, in the midst of a bunch of polls and event planning. I nearly missed it! This is a glimpse of Benton on that hinge point of his life, mother gone, father absent, trying to adapt to life with his grandparents. Snippets rarely make me cry, but this one did.

Insta-rec: The Three Second Answer

Title: The Three Second Answer
Author: Jenn ([livejournal.com profile] seperis)
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: PG-13
Length: ~5,500 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: Ray suddenly realizes he's in the middle of the Arctic, where he can never tell what time it is, he does not want to know what the hell it is he's eating, and the highlight of his day is stumping Fraser, which doesn't happen that often--not that he's counting. *cough* Throw in some flashbacks to show how he got there, stir in some classic snark, add one adorable Dief and a few additional epiphanies, and the result is happily ever after. This fic is made of 100% pure Ray!glee, with ample helpings of Fraser!love on the side!

Anyone who's a fan of Jenn's writing in other fandoms is dancing for joy that she's fallen for Due South. Those who don't know her yet will read her Ray voice, and dance for joy, anyway!

Insta-Rec: "An awkward moment is to be savored"

Title: An awkward moment is to be savored
Author: [livejournal.com profile] snoopypez
Pairing: Fraser/Vecchio
Rating: NC-17
Length: 1102
Why I'm reccing this fic: Because this fic is amazing! It starts off as a cute, wacky little fic about Fraser and Vecchio's first few dates and then it makes you wibble and then all of a sudden there is HOT SMOKING SEX. And there is a line, towards the end of the fic, that I am not going to quote because I don't want to spoil you, but it is my favorite sentence I've read in MONTHS. Seriously guys, this fic is deceptively simple and short but there's a lot of awesome and complex stuff packed into a small space--the guys are just so blindingly THEMSELVES, cute and dorky and then all of a sudden they sucker punch you with just how badly they need each other.

InstaRec: Hot Pursuit

Title: Hot Pursuit
Author: Rhiannon Shaw ([livejournal.com profile] gryphonrhi)
Crossover: due South/Highlander
Characters: Fraser, Diefenbaker, Matthew McCormick
Rating: PG
Length: Short
Why I'm reccing this fic: Rhiannon Shaw is one of the bright lights of the Highlander fandom. This story has Immortal FBI agent Matthew McCormick encountering Fraser and Dief on the streets of Chicago. The outsider perspective (both the character's and the author's) is delightful. Fraser's dialogue with Dief alone makes this fic worth the read.

Insta-rec: Here Where This Place Is

Title: Here Where This Place Is
Author: [livejournal.com profile] brooklinegirl
Pairing: Fraser/RayK
Rating: NC-17
Length: 1231 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: Although the weather is about as far as it can get away from the weather at the moment, the characterisation is absolutely perfect; I could see poor Fraser wilting under the strain of wool in the summer and the way in which Ray takes care of him in all the little ways is fantastic.

Insta-rec: Finding a Clue

Title: Finding a Clue
Author: [livejournal.com profile] secret_garden
Pairing: F/K
Rating: PG-13
Length: 421 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: F/K kisses! This is just a beautiful, intimate moment, captured so perfectly for our pleasure. Ray, Fraser, a late night at the station, and one last clue to find. *happy sigh* No excerpt, as it's (sadly) short.

Insta-rec: The Fraser Record (Excerpts)

Title: The Fraser Record (Excerpts)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] custardpringle
Pairing: Vaguely F/K
Rating: R
Length: 2440 words, plus footnotes
Why I'm reccing this fic: Me? I like being completely and utterly creeped out while I eat my breakfast. Or at least when I started eating my breakfast, by the end, I'd put my cereal on the floor, to finish when I'd stopped holding my breath. The style is original and compelling, jumping from formal snippits of report, to as-the-events-unfold speech, to quotes from the original book that its based on that could easily read as Fraser's journal entries. There are unfinished sentences that make you want to scream "what? Making-what?" The story makes full use of the media its being posted in, providing links to... well, find out yourself... throughout the story, which for me heighten the growing sense of unease I felt following each link. The best written parts of this story, though, are the parts that go unwritten.

Rating: PG

Why I'm reccing this fic: this just popped up on [livejournal.com profile] ds_weekly so i went to have a peek. this is [livejournal.com profile] brynnmck's first dS fic, having only seen season 1, and oh my GOD does she have Vecchio down to an art. or a science. whatever. this is an absolutely wonderful first fic, and she needs to keep writing in this fandom, dammit.

Such Things as Angels

Title: Such Things as Angels
Author: JS Cavalcante
Pairing: F/K
Rating: NC-17
Length: 7000 words? Who cares, it's all good.
Why I'm reccing this fic:

I'm usually something of a Scrooge come xmas time, but I feel a bit mellow today, so what the hell, why not.

If you haven't already - and even if you have - you should read this because Ray insists on wearing Fraser's hat, and Fraser is, well, Fraser, but he gets there in the end (awww). And the atmosphere is all festive and understated.

The Bough That Breaks

Why I'm reccing these fics: It's Christmas, we got great holiday fics with F/K kisses and happy endings- who needs more reason than that?

C'mon folks, throw out your favvie holiday fic! It's like watching those old Rankin-Bass specials on TV, ya just gotta do it every year or it doesn't feel like the holidays...

Insta-Rec: The Power of Grace

Title: The Power of Grace
Author: [livejournal.com profile] catwalksalone
Pairing: Ray/Ray
Rating: NC-17
Length: 5000 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: I DO NOT READ RAY/RAY. I admit it! I followed the link with ulterior motives! I wanted Kowalski to run away to Canada and break Vecchio's heart if he had to! Love and war, it's all fair, I don't care who's a casualty!

...Except not, because [livejournal.com profile] catwalksalone writes a stunningly good Vecchio, and his love for Ray demands respect in a fic like this. He expresses it in such a way -- without overblown drama or schmoop -- that you can't deny it. Vecchio really shines in this one.

This is the third in a series, but stands on its own. Basically, Vecchio wakes up one morning to find Kowalski shoving his clothes in a backpack and leaving. Vecchio looks for his own answers why -- the answer is 'Fraser' -- and starts driving to Canada looking for Kowalski, who he guesses is hitchhiking along the side of the highway.

Highly recommend this one to everyone, Ray/Ray fan or no. Emotionally tense but handled with subtlety and some very well-chosen dialogue. The winter imagery is just amazing, too -- you can practically smell the Riv's heater.

Title: Above and Beyond
Author: [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]
Pairing: RayK/Fraser
Rating: PG (maybe. Maybe even G)
Length: short
Why I'm reccing this fic: I am totally using that whole Insta-rec thing because, in order:

1. Benton the student librarian.
2. RayK on the debate team.
3. Gratuitous National Geographic references.
4. Kissing in the stacks.
5. I am all about the library fic this weekend. See #1. And #4.
6. It's shiny and new and maybe, if we all wish really, really, really hard, we'll get a porny sequel.

Pairing Ray/Ray
Rating: R
Length medium
Why I'm reccing this fic: This was just posted to [livejournal.com profile] inuvikdotcom, and it's been haunting me since I read it this morning. I LOVED it. So, I'm using my insta-rec and it also fits the challenge, so YAY. I love the dialogue in this (which I am inherently jealous of) and how perfectly she captured them. How I could totally see this happening. And how I TOTALLY didn't read my own F/K/V-ness into the end at all. Go! Read! Enjoy!
