Trip's over, folks! Pack your suitcases, mail out your postcards, and hop back on the boat/bus/train/plane: the I ♥ Somewhere Else challenge is over. Thanks to everyone who recced a story (or three): I've certainly been enjoying the thought of life elsewhere. Preferably in Seattle. With fangirls.

At any rate, we've got a new challenge starting up today, and this one is in honour of [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon, the multi-fandom podfic recording challenge. Record a podfic, get a point. Record two podfics, get more points. And you can score even higher if it's your first recording, if you're podficcing in a new fandom or for a rare pairing (or, hell, even gen!) The recording challenge closes June 2nd, so please join the community and record your favourite story!

But Nos, you say, this is [livejournal.com profile] ds_recsredux. Why the hell are you talking about podfic?

Okay, ye of little faith, I'll explain. See, podfic is really cool. It allows authors and dedicated readers to put voice to the written word and perform stories using their voice. It also increases access to stories, because not all fans who want to read fanfiction can sit at a computer or use a mouse/keyboard for long periods of time. And finally, you can listen to a fangirl or fanboy read you porn as you drive to work or head to school on the bus or take a walk. What's better than that? Well, okay, maybe blowjobs in the back of the GTO, but podfic comes in at a close second.

So, in order to encourage some new folks to read and record podfic, we'd like to ask you to recommend your three favourite C6D podfic recordings. They can be of any length, pairing or fandom, as long as they're within the Canadian Six Degrees family (i.e. any TV show, movie or awesome "rock" video starring one of the due South cast). There are many, many recordings to choose from: [livejournal.com profile] jinjurly has created a massive index of audiofic over at her website, Jinjurly.com. You can search by fandom, which works out well for our recs challenge, since that means you can take a peak at the due South, Wilby Wonderful, Hard Core Logo and Slings & Arrows indexes. These lists aren't completely comprehensive, but [livejournal.com profile] jinjurly has searched high and low to collect as many audiofic recordings as possible. If the story you want to rec isn't available through [livejournal.com profile] jinjurly's lists, please do your best to provide us a link to the audio recording.

ETA: I'm very, very pretty, and as a result I forgot to mention that [livejournal.com profile] slidellra has a more comprehensive list of due South podfic over here, and as She of the Sexay Voice can tell you herself, podfic kinda rules.

Go take a listen to one or two (or a dozen) fics, and report back here with your recommendations. Let's celebrate the awesomeness of podfic!

This challenge will close in two weeks, which'll leave you plenty of time for downloading and listening. Get crackin'!

Spring cleaning: our tags have been given a fresh new makeover to eliminate redundancies and hopefully make everything easier to find. Please remember to tag your posts--it helps your mods tremendously. :) You have the following options for tags: author, challenge, category (i.e. slash, het, gen, AU, crossover), pairing, and rating, with additional tags (under "other") for guest recs and insta-recs. There are a lot of tags to choose from! Only moderators can create new tags (I hope this will prevent the existence of vecchio/kowalski, kowalski/vecchio, k/v, v/k, AND ray/ray--I love the pairing, too, but we don't need that many tags for them, for real), but if a tag you need is missing--new author? new pairing? got a hankering for mpreg and want to find it easy-peasy?--just let us know and we'll create it for you right away.

Hi all!

We thought it would be a good idea to extend the I ♥ Somewhere Else challenge another week since we're all still recovering from the Seattle con and writing fic and meeting challenge deadlines. So bust out your favourite anywhere-but-here recs! [livejournal.com profile] sam80853 and [livejournal.com profile] scriggle have already sent us to New Zealand, Europe and Mexico, but there are still plenty of stories out there set in exotic locals. Get crackin', folks! This challenge will last until next Monday.
[identity profile] nos4a2no9.livejournal.com
Heyo! Your friendly neighbourhood mods are back from [livejournal.com profile] bitchinparty and I am only two days late in closing our recent Guest Recs challenge. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] hurry_sundown for taking over things in our absence and not, y'know, burning down the house or anything.

Do you see what I did there? Do you? Good.

For our newest recs challenge, we're asking you to recommend your three favourite due South stories set somewhere other than Chicago or the frozen Canadian tundra. Our hearts remain in Seattle, but our Boys (or girls) can travel anywhere. So tell us which authors nailed a particular location, or made you fall in love with a place outside the characters' usual hangout zone.

Maybe you like to read about Fraser and Ray (or Ray and Ray) chilling on a sunny beach. Or exploring Europe. Or taking a road trip. Or hanging out in Montreal or Toronto. (Canada is more than snowy wasteland, I promise!) Basically, a rec for any fic that offers us a change of scenery would be welcome.

The I ♥ Somewhere Else challenge will run until Sunday, April 6th, after which we'll have a brand new prompt for all you eager reccers. Take us away, folks!

This is just a quick admin note that amnesty week is now closed! Our guest reccer this month is [livejournal.com profile] hurry_sundown, and she's already made her first post of recs on the theme of "dS fic that changed my fannish experience." Go, read, enjoy, and don't forget to feed the authors!

Um. So I sort of ... missed Monday? And Tuesday? And then Wednesday, which is just silly. I fail at timely community management. So I guess this brings us to our March Amnesty Week(end), wherein you can get in some very last-minute recs for the Tie Me Down Challenge and the Okay OCs Challenge. You have until Monday--theoretically, anyway! *hides in shame*

[identity profile] ignazwisdom.livejournal.com
March is positively flying past us! Last week we even lost an hour (well, I did, anyway)! This week brings us the end of the Tie Me Down Challenge (at least until Amnesty Week) and the introduction of a new theme: the Okay OC Challenge. For this week's challenge, rec us some stories featuring original characters you--*gasp*--actually liked! (Not that difficult in a fandom as awesome as this one, of course.) And you know what? They don't even have to be OCs you liked--you can bring us your favorite villains and bad guys, too.

The challenge will run from now until next Monday! Happy reccing!

My turn!

So February is over and done, and with it go our lovely Valentine's homages: the Fics of Your Heart Challenge, the Declaration challenge ... and, um, deathfic (hee, just kidding, I love it! thank you, [livejournal.com profile] keerawa!).

This week brings a brand new theme: the Tie Me Down Challenge! Woohoo! Lots of things can tie our characters down, for better or worse: jobs, relationships, family, expectations ... handcuffs, scarves, silk rope ... mmm, what were we talking about again? As always, feel free to flex your creative muscles for the challenge.

We'll run it through next Monday! (And yeah, they're going to open and close late this month ...) Thank you so much to everyone who made recs in January and February, and thanks especially to [livejournal.com profile] slidellra and [livejournal.com profile] keerawa for their fabulous stints as guest reccers.
[identity profile] dessert-first.livejournal.com
Okay, okay--now we really mean it. The February Amnesty Challenge is officially closed. ::throws confetti:: Thanks to the sparkly people who posted extra rec goodness!

This week, we turn the reins over to the fabulous [livejournal.com profile] keerawa, who promises to bring cheer and gamboling puppies and daisies to her week of specially themed recs. Or, you know, something a little angstier, maybe?
[identity profile] dessert-first.livejournal.com
Esteemed reccers, I do declare the official Declaration of Affection challenge is now over. But it's never really over at [livejournal.com profile] ds_recsredux until it absolutely, completely, totally has to be. And sometimes, you really need more than just three recs.

This week, it's Amnesty for both February challenges. You can post up to three recs for the Fics of Your Heart challenge or for the Declaration of Affection challenge. And if you already posted for either of those, I heartily assure you that should you feel compelled to post again, your mods will totally be okay with that. You have until next Monday to rec to your heart's content!
[identity profile] dessert-first.livejournal.com
Reccers, you have outdone yourselves this week! My fabulous co-mods and I thank you all kindly. The Fics of Your Heart Challenge is now officially closed.

But don't worry! We'll continue paying homage to Valentine's Day (and romance, and warm squishy feeling, and… rainbows and stuff) all month. This week, we bring you the Declaration Challenge. Sonnets, stutters, stumbles—bring us the fic or vid with the best, worst or most memorable declaration of affection you can think of. Does Ray accidentally insult the object of his affections? Does Fraser wax completely incomprehensible? Are there flowers and candy or pizza and hockey? Grand romantic gestures? Crippling fear of rejection? Drugs? Alcohol? Third parties? It's gotta get said somehow, and we want to read all about it. You have until next Monday to sweep us off our feet!
[identity profile] dessert-first.livejournal.com
It's official! [livejournal.com profile] slidellra has wrapped up the January recs in grand style. Thanks to everyone for their fantastic recs, and for kicking off the new year with such enthusiasm.

This week we ask you to give us the fics of your heart. Not necessarily the best fics you ever read (although they well could be), but the ones that stay with you; that you remember a line from or re-read over and over; that encapsulate the way you see a character; that have an image, insight or sex scene that you couldn't stop thinking about; that serve up the romance or the angst or the humor; your go-to fic. If you loved it, we wanna read it.

Challenge closes next Monday, so please--rec your hearts out!
[identity profile] nos4a2no9.livejournal.com
Sob! Our first amnesty challenge is finished. Many thanks to those of you who contributed either favourite dSSS recs OR recs for the New Beginnings challenge.

This week we're going to turn things over to our individual reccer [livejournal.com profile] slidellra, who is going to rock our socks with her own special recommendations. Is she going to talk about her favourite authors? Pairings? Her unusual affection for kinky stories that combine suspenders and maple syrup? Who knows! We'll have to wait and see. Take it away, [livejournal.com profile] slidellra!
[identity profile] nos4a2no9.livejournal.com
Hi all!

Okay, so we're not exactly swimming in New Beginnings recs. And a lot of you said you wanted to post your Seekrit Santa recs but ran out of time. Well, consider this your lucky week! [livejournal.com profile] ds_recsredux is now holding an Amnesty Challenge, which means you get a whole extra seven days to post about your favourite stories for either of the month's challenges.

Do you see how clever we are? We strip away the thin veneer of excuse, and then we coax those recs out of you! So go ahead and make those recs that you had meant to get to earlier. And starting next Monday we'll have our very first Guest Reccer. Hold on to your Stetsons, folks!
[identity profile] nos4a2no9.livejournal.com
Out with the old, in with the new! Our Seekrit Santa Challenge has scurried back up the chimney, and we're on to a brand new week of recs here at [livejournal.com profile] ds_recsredux. And what is a more fitting new challenge topic than....New Beginnings!

That's right, come on down and rec your favourite fics that explore new beginnings - emotional or literal fresh starts, as in New Year, new job, new boyfriend, new boundaries set or pushed (sexual or otherwise, but I'm votin' for sexual!) new routines, new undercover assignments, or brand new cabins out in the wilds of Canada. Think renewal. Think rebirth. Think...new challenge!

We'll run this one until next Monday. Thank you kindly, as always, for participating and offering up those recs!
[identity profile] nos4a2no9.livejournal.com
Welcome to the very first rec challenge for the revamped [livejournal.com profile] ds_recsredux! Since the stories are still fresh in our minds, my cohorts and I thought it would be a good idea to offer you all a chance to celebrate the goodness that is due South Seekrit Santa, the anonymous-until-New Years gift exchange that has lead to much squee within the fandom. The 2007 dSSS authors were recently revealed, and there are 54 stories of various pairings (and even some gen!) on offer. But! We don't want to restrict the greatness of dSSS to just one year, so in our very first challenge of 2008 we ask that you rec your favourite Seekrit Santa fics from any year. If no favourites immediately spring to mind, you can search the dSSS archive by pairing, genre, or year, or you try the Quicksearch link if you're feeling adventurous.

ETA: If you're feeling really adventurous, you can try out the random story generator, which is also available as an archive feature. Who knows what you'll get? It's just like Christmas!

Please ensure that your recs follow this format )

So go forth, and rec your three favourite dSSS stories! This challenge will close next Monday.
[identity profile] nos4a2no9.livejournal.com
Hi all!

It's a new year, and [livejournal.com profile] ds_recsredux is changing hands and getting a slight change in format. [livejournal.com profile] dessert_first, [livejournal.com profile] ignazwisdom and I are still planning to keep the current prompt format (we give you a prompt like, "Your favourite story involving handcuffs!", you post three recs during the alloted time, we all have a mutual love-fest over the fic, everybody wins) but we're adding something new, too. Or something old, depending on your point of view.

As I mentioned in my previous post, my fearless co-mods and I are going to borrow a page from the old [livejournal.com profile] ds_recs community, and one week per month an individual reccer will be in charge of making recommendations. The lucky fanperson can rec anything and everything connected with due South. You want to talk about your top five favourite episodes? Do it. Have a burning desire to share a list of your best-loved stories, or your five guiltiest pleasures? This is the place. Hold court on why Vecchio makes your knees weak, talk about your favourite bit of meta, tell us the story of how you first discovered due South, or explain why Diefenbaker is the best deaf half-wolf ever to grace the small screen. You get one week to sell us on the idea. We provide the platform and a (hopefully) interested audience, and you get to rec to your heart's content.

More info behind the cut )

Okay! So those are the basics. We'll have a new recs prompt challenge starting on Monday, and hopefully the last week of the month will bring us a single reccer who will blow our collective socks off! Please sign up to do the guest-rec thing, and pimp this out to your fellow dS fen! Yay for a new year! Yay for recs! \o/
[identity profile] nos4a2no9.livejournal.com
Hi all!

I know things have been quiet around these parts lately, and I wanted to assure everyone that [livejournal.com profile] ds_recsredux is not dead, just in hibernation. Starting early in the new year [livejournal.com profile] brooklinegirl and [livejournal.com profile] justbreathe80 will be handing over modding duties to [livejournal.com profile] dessert_first, [livejournal.com profile] ignazwisdom and myself. BLG and JustBreathe have done a fantastic job with this community. They've both worked hard and the comm has been a great success: with over 300 people reading and making new story recommendations [livejournal.com profile] ds_recsredux has become a great stopping point for new fen as well as older readers looking for fresh stories or to find an old favorite. My cohorts and I want to keep things running smoothly as well as introduce some changes to get people interested, engaged and above all making more recommendations when the comm returns in the new year.

Dess, Iggy and I love the challenge reccing format currently used, but we also liked the way the old [livejournal.com profile] ds_recs community was run. That comm asked participants to sign up for a particular week, during which time they could "recommend" anything dS-related that they liked. For example, if you've got a particular character you'd like to pimp, or an episode of the show, a set of favorite authors, a list of songs that remind you of the characters, or even a "How to Pimp due South to Your Friends and Family" manifesto, you could sign up for a week and rec to your heart's content. We're aiming for a blend of the two approaches, and we're also putting together some additional surprises to celebrate the return of the community. I'll be posting more about the new comm format in the next few weeks, and keep your peepers peeped for a rec sign-up sheet. For now, please know that [livejournal.com profile] ds_recsredux will return in the new year, and I hope you'll drop BLG and JustBreathe a line to let them know what a great job they've done with the comm in the past year.

Happy holidays, and we'll see you in 2008!

Hi.

Um, what can I say? Life got INSANE. So!

The Since You've Been Gone Challenge had eight wonderful entries...and when I get a free second, I'll tag all of them properly and add a link to this post. Ahem

Anyway! [livejournal.com profile] mergatrude suggested an episode-related challenge. This seems particularly well-suited to Due South, because lord knows the episodes themselves give us a LOT to work with.

So, rec your favorite episode-related fic! Post-Ladies Man, something set during Odds, post-MotB, what have you. The challenge will (with all of my good intentions) run through Sunday, August 19. Go forth! Rec away!

(oh, and PLEASE try to remember to tag your entries properly! With rating, author name, type, and the challenge name. At LEAST with the challenge name - it will make my life SO much easier, thank you!)

(and, as always, suggestions for future challenges are welcomed and encouraged in the comments!)
[identity profile] justbreathe80.livejournal.com
Hi! Good morning!

Okay, so for the first post-hiatus challenge here at [livejournal.com profile] ds_recsredux, we need to catch up! There have been lots of wonderful fics posted between May 1 (when the last challenge closed) and today. So! Your mission is to rec what we've missed in DS. Any fic posted between May 1 and today is fair game. Tell us what we've missed! Tell us why we should love it!

The challenge will close on Sunday, June 22. Go forth and rec!
