Anyone who's written or read Due South fic knows just how painful challenging it can be to write good Fraser point of view. The guy wants to say "buttocks" instead of "ass," "member" instead of "cock," and "the physical act of love" instead of "fucking." He's got a very particular way of communicating and seeing the world. There's the Fraser who's snarky with his dad and with Dief, and there's the Fraser who's so often formal with the outside world.

It can be a fine balance for the writer to nail the formal, didactic tone he uses so often, as well as get a handle on that more real, human flavor that is so much a part of his character.

So, your challenge is this: rec us your favorite Fraser-POV fics. The ones that really speak to you, let you see the man behind the uniform.

The challenge will be open until late night Sunday, October 22. Remember to tag your entries! Now go out there and show us what the real Mountie is like!

Title: Ex Libris
Author: [livejournal.com profile] brooklinegirl
Pairing Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: R
Length medium
Why I'm reccing this fic: This is one of my very, very favorite fics ever, and the major reason why is how absolutely PERFECT this Fraser POV is. I remember being just bowled over by it, and I think my comment on it was the first I ever left. This story caused me to delurk! It's got that very distinctive, formal flavor of Fraser, but it happens entirely in his head and gets at who he IS. How much he wants, how hard it is for him to ask for it. How Fraser says so much, but has to fight to find his own words for how he feels. God. I just reread this and fell in love all over again.

Title: Under the Skin
Author: [livejournal.com profile] sprat
Pairing Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: explicit
Length medium
Why I'm reccing this fic: I love [livejournal.com profile] sprat beyond my ability to describe. Her stories are vivid and detailed and gorgeous and almost always porny. This is no exception and the way she gets into Fraser's head kills me. It's the one that starts with the car breaking down as they're on their way to court and Ray strips off his good dress shirt and is working on the car in just his sleeveless undershirt and suit pants. He's a little sweaty and a little dirty and Fraser wants him so bad he can taste it.

This fic builds and builds as Fraser fights a losing battle against wanting Ray. It's incredibly hot - fantastic build-up, and one of my very favorite Fraser POV fics ever. God. I just re-read it and now I am entirely distracted from work.

Title: Breathless
Author: [personal profile] aerye
Pairing Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: Not rated, but it has some pretty hot kissing, so take that as you will.
Length vignette
Why I'm reccing this fic: [personal profile] aerye was one of the first authors I read in this fandom, and the fact that I still love her stories many many months (years?) later just goes to show how good they are. She gets Fraser perfectly here, showing us how he may be buttoned-up and polite but he's also physical and needy and raw, and while he may hide his feelings for Ray most of the time, man, is he intense. It's hot and gorgeous, and oh, the last line—just wonderful.

Title: A Heart Alone
Author: BJ Cochran
Pairing F/K
Rating: NC-17 (according to the author; I'd rate it as R)
Length 6400 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: It ends well, but before the ending Fraser spends 6000 words dealing with mistakes and misconceptions and choices made and time lost. It sounds like Fraser, without the overblown language and complicated syntax that's so tempting in stories from his pov. There are a few awkward spots, but overall it's a strong emotional piece with careful hints at the backstory that's left Fraser and Ray in this place--neither of them happy, both a little broken, but finally headed somewhere good.

Also, there's a supporting role for green bean casserole. And I love green bean casserole.

Title: Drifting
Author: Alanna and [profile] the_star_fish
Pairing F/K
Rating: NC-17
Length 4900 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: Fraser is literally about to go bugfuck crazy. It's all Thatcher's fault. Well, mostly Thatcher's fault. And Ray has a fantastic idea about how to fix the problem. Because Ray is the decisive one.

I love the way that Ray springs into action and does whatever he can to help Fraser. (What can I say? I've got a thing for protective!Ray.) And the descriptions of how Fraser feels, the way he's disconnecting from everything, are incredible.

Title: Three Ways Fraser Didn't Tell Him, and Two More
Author: [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]
Pairing F/K
Rating: PG
Length 2450 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: Five very different possibilities, but all of them sound like Fraser. This is one that shows how exciting a Five Things meme can be with the right ingredients. Bonus points for the great use of metaphor.

Title: Acharnement
Author: A C Chapin
Pairing: Fraser/RayV
Rating: Nc-17
Length: About 5000 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: Because it's beautiful. It tells you so much in so few words, and really lets you into Fraser's head post Victoria's secret. Fraser's perspective is so well-done, with heartbreaking emotion and brainbreaking hotness.

Title: Passion
Author: Speranza
Pairing Fraser/OMC, Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Length: long
Why I'm reccing this fic: It's almost a cliche to recommend [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza, I suppose, but I can't resist: this story is possibly my favorite due South story of all time. No, really. It's Fraser, and who he was, and how he became who he is, and what he wants and loves and needs and thinks. It goes all the way from when he's thirteen to his late 30's with Ray Kowalski; there's angst and woobieness and joy and, seriously, it makes my chest ache with love every single time. I can't think of another story that more fully shows just how much I adore this character.

Why I'm reccing this fic: First time AU story. Fraser meets RayK when he first comes to Chicago. Great Fraser!voice. Hot strangers-meet-at-the-bar-anonymous-sex. Canonical happy end. Perfect!
