Title: Undertow (Battlestar Galactica)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] widget285
Pairing: Leoben/Lee Adama
Rating: "D for dirtybadwrongness" (NC17)
Length: longish
Why I'm reccing this fic: younger Lee, not yet an officer in the Colonial Fleet, happens to meet a copy of Leoben at his seductive, fanatical best. [livejournal.com profile] widget285 gets Leoben perfectly, his interest in humanity, his knowing what Lee wants and believes. Leoben is a whitewater rapids in this fic, and Lee's just along for the ride.

Undertow

Title: Disconnecting (Battlestar Galactica)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] mousewrites
Pairing: none; Leoben
Rating: G
Length: middle-ish
Why I'm reccing this fic: someone else who just GETS Leoben, gets his solid, bone-deep belief, gets how a machine might feel if it were made to be human, and gets how a human machine might become a bit unstable if separated from the collective.

A brief excerpt )

Disconnecting

Title: When There's Nothing Left to Burn, You Have to Set Yourself On Fire (Twitch City)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] pearl_o
Pairing: Hope/Curtis
Rating: PG?
Length: longish
Why I'm reccing this fic: this reads like an episode of Twitch City. word for word, line for line of dialogue. but we get to see what Hope thinks and what she doesn't say and make sure you read the comments too because the discussion is so worth it. this story is either a "feminist manifesto" or "sad and indifferent". or maybe both.

A trio of cross-overs featuring Gus Knickel.

Title: Chansons de marin
Author: [livejournal.com profile] aukestrel
Pairing: Gus Knickel/Johnny Johannson (Buried on Sunday/My Life as a Dog)
Rating: NC-17
Length: 120KB
Why I'm reccing this fic: AuK has taken two of my favorite characters and brought them together in a believable way. It's a voyage of discovery for both Johnny and Gus. There's sweetness and tenderness. And did I mention, it's HOT.

Brief Excerpt )

Chansons de marin

Title: Crossroads
Author: [livejournal.com profile] kelliem
Pairing: Gus Knickel/Ollie (Buried on Sunday/Masterminds)
Rating: NC-17
Length: 445KB
Why I'm reccing this fic: Ollie is a character we know very little about. Kellie's picks up where Masterminds left off. She gives him a credible backstory and fleshes out his character while keeping him consistent what we see in canon. Gus is a perfect foil for Ollie. Their interactions ring true.

Crossroads

Title: Born on Monday
Author: [livejournal.com profile] akite
Pairing: Gus Knickel/Rollie Saunders (Buried on Sunday/Whiskey Echo)
Rating: NC-17
Length: 31KB
Why I'm reccing this fic: There's not a lot of fic that features Rollie. At least not that I could ever find. Pairing Rollie with Gus works wonderfully. In many respects, they mirror each other, world-weary and a touch cynical. [livejournal.com profile] akite brings them together and the sparks fly.

Fandom: Hard Core Logo
Title: Beside You
Author: Zen&Nancy
Pairing: Joe/Billy
Rating: NC-17
Length: Mediumish
Why I love this: Oh, where to start? Well, for a start this is Joe and Billy, when they're just starting out, told from an absolutely perfect Joe POV. I mean completely perfect, this story is so in Joe and Billy's skins, and although Joe's high on drugs, and they're on this crappy mattress in these crappy digs, and they never communicate normally, they fit, and it's wonderful.

Fandom: due South/Hard Core Logo
Title: The Distance Between
Author: aukestrel
Pairing: Joe/Fraser
Rating: NC-17
Length: Pretty long
Why I love this Story: Ok, so this is on the offchance that one of you hasn't read this story *g*. And if you haven't? What on earth are you doing? Go, read it! This is a post Victoria's Secret Fraser, and a pre film Joe, and it's just so painful, and so real it takes my breath away. Fraser's understandably in a pretty bad way in this fic, and Auk really gets Fraser, gets under his skin, gets this need for punishment and atonement that Fraser has, and Joe gets that, too. Joe, for all of his punkish self delusion, for all of his flaws sees right through Fraser, and the power struggle that ensues is complicated, and hot, and a great insight into two characters that maybe aren't that different after all.

Fandom: HCL/ due South
Title: Burning down the Mother-Fucking House
Author: Sister Wolf
Pairing: None really, Joe/RayK preslash ish
Rating: R for language (dude, this is Joe Dick!)
Length: Medium
Why I love this fic: This had me sold on the premise: Instead of Fraser, Joe Dick is attached as liason to the CPD, and, in his own words. 'My name’s Constable Joe Mulgrew, Royal Canadian Motherfucking Police.  I first came to fucking Chicago on the trail of the spooge-sucking fuckfaces who offed my fucking old man, and for reasons that don't need fucking exploring at this fucking juncture, asshole, I stayed '. So when Ray Vecchio goes undercover, and Ray Kowalski switches places, Joe is understandably confused. What follows is completely wonderful crack a thoughtful meditation on place and identity, using the switch between the Rays to allow Joe to consider the transitory nature of his own existence. There is another story, E-Fucking-Clipse, which follows this one, and is just as special, but if you're looking for a way of spraying coffee on your keyboard, this is a pretty sure bet.

Title: Une vie moins ordinaire
Author: [livejournal.com profile] aukestrel
Pairing: Gus Knickel/Johnny Johannson (Buried on Sunday/My Life as a Dog)
Rating: NC-17
Length: 312KB
Why I'm reccing this fic: Because I'm in love with Gus & Johnny.
Those two are just so cute together. And hot! [livejournal.com profile] aukestrel is doing an amazing job in bringing those two together again - it's a sequel to Chansons de marin, [livejournal.com profile] scriggle already rec'ed here.

Title: Wide Open Space
Author: [livejournal.com profile] aukestrel & [livejournal.com profile] kelliem
Pairing: Alex Bresnyachuk/Christy Mahon (Getting Married in Buffalo Jump/Somewhere in Paris)
Rating: NC-17
Length: 203KB
Why I'm reccing this fic: I'm really bad with this 'why' stuff ... It's just two lonely men falling in love, beautifully written by two skillful writers and that's about it.

brief excerpt )

Wide Open Space

Title: Islanders
Author:
[livejournal.com profile] akite
Pairing: Gus Knickel/Duck MacDonald (Buried on Sunday/Wilby Wonderful)
Rating: NC-17
Length: 50KB
Why I'm reccing this fic: Two islanders meet in Solomon Gundy - both characters are well-captured, you really get a feeling of the men you know from the movies.

Title: Call This World Home
Author: Isis
Pairing: Duck/Dan; also Buddy/Carol
Rating: R
Length: 2450 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: Isis describes this as a fusion between Last Night and Wilby Wonderful. If you go to Isis' site there's even an audio version of it. The story is divided into a few snapshots of the various residents of Wilby Island, and IMO evokes the atmosphere of both films as closely as you're going to get without standing on that beach staring at the sun.

Call This World Home

Title: A Change of Season
Author: Malnpudl
Pairing: Duck/Dan
Rating: NC-17/FRAO
Length: ~1800 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: I read this before I'd managed to see WW. I did try to stay away, but I kept on bumping into it and in the end I couldn't resist. I loved it even then. It's a gentle tale of patience, hope and discovery set after the end of the film, and when I went back to it after watching it, I loved it even more. Look, I'm pouring my heart out here, the poetic thing just doesn't come to me, all right? It's fucking gorgeous, so just go and read it, will you.

A Change of Season

Title: Northern Comfort
Author: Kellie Matthews
Pairing: B Tallent/B Fraser
Rating: NC-17
Length: It's long, but not a word longer than it should.
Why I'm reccing this fic: This one was an exercise in patience for me, because for once in my life I did as I was told and waited until I'd seen Hard Core Logo before I read it. If you have not seen HCL please do not read this until you have, it'll only spoil it for you. In a nutshell, Billy Tallent ends up at the Consulate and Fraser doesn't know what's hit him. Rayk has a cameo or two and Fraser...You feel like giving him a hug, really. That should be reason enough to read it, but it gets better. There are two sequels to this: No Secrets follows Fraser back into the world of dS, whilst Shadows Fade(written with Aukestrel) follows Billy to San Francisco in a crossover with Tales of the City, but I'm not sure I'm allowed to stick them in here, too. They can all be found on KM's website. Between all of these there's enough love, heartbreak and hot hot hot sex to make you forget you've got legs, and quite frankly I've no idea of what you're still doing here.
