[identity profile] slidellra.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] ds_recsredux
Hi! I am guest reccing! Which means I have power. I like that. With my unlimited power, I declare it shortfic appreciation week (half week, whatever) here at [livejournal.com profile] ds_recsredux, because I like to appreciate shortfic. Very short fic; drabbles, snippets, fragments, commentfic, all of the above. (I, uh, have been planning this theme for a while. Like, before the last week. *coughcough*)

I maybe have a short attention span and like immediate gratification, this is possible! But tiny fic is a tasty snack, a way to enjoy fanfic on the fly. Sometimes tiny fic tends towards the sap and the kissing, which I don't mind. Sometimes it tends towards the cheap, clever joke, which I don't mind. Sometimes it tends towards the open-ended (open-beginninged, open-middled), which I adore. Spaces in fic for me to wonder about and be frustrated over and fill in my ownself? Yes, please! A bit of inspiring insight or porniness that gets stuck in my brain forever and ever? Yay! And sometimes an author just nails a character or a situation in a bit of breathless, itty-bitty perfection. That's cool, too.

I'll be reccing many snippets and short fic and drabbles this week, and I'll also be doing something a little different. Many minific gems straddle the line between fic and notfic/meta, are commentfic or casual posts, and I'll be reccing some of those as well. These kinds of impromptu fic/meta/off the cuff deliciousness are one of the great joys of reading on LJ, of being part of the community, but they're also somewhat hidden and ephemeral. They're rarely linked or announced by their authors, and can be hard to find if you weren't there at the just-right moment. So there's an element of LJ stalking going on with my reccing them here, and if you see a comment or post of yours recced this week that you'd prefer not be, please do let me know.

(The do I have to disclaimer: Certainly there are inherent flaws in a tinyfic format, and they rarely/for most people evoke the kind of emotional commitment and satisfaction of good longer fic. Longer fic is wonderful and yay, too. This is not an either/or kind of post, here. Also, a sad admission: I haven't actually commented on much of the material I'll be reccing. I suck. I'll get on that.)

All pairings probably F/K unless I specify otherwise. And, hey, I specify otherwise for my first couple of recs, because [livejournal.com profile] aerye gives me two perfect examples. The border between porn and thinking aloud? Yeah, hi. Yum. And the comments are chock full of excellence as she plays with the porny theme, with the help of other lovely people (F/K, Ray/Ray). Or here, where she maybe possibly answers the question of what happens after the end of her amazing Ray/Ray fic You Get What You Need. I love this. She proposes a deeply satisfying sequel, but both her tone and the mini-fic format itself create the impression of a sketch rather than gospel, of something that could be but isn't certain, undercutting the authority of the sequel and preserving the tension of the original fic. Which, honestly, makes me kind of giddy. I like having cake and also eating it, yes.

And while I'm picking on [livejournal.com profile] aerye, there's the porny comment follow-up to her also-short Fucking Rain here (F/K), in the same post as the above. Or this post, where she gives us six (I say six, and I say it firmly) wonderful commentfics, covering a wide range of pairings. Or the comments to this post, where other great writers also play. And there's this bit of Ray/Ray boxing porn, which is permanently filed in the happy place in my brain.

[livejournal.com profile] pearl_o and [livejournal.com profile] lalejandra create Choose Your Own Adventure F/K porn/snark. (Go upthread to find more porn. More porn is good.)

[livejournal.com profile] malnpudl rocks short fic. Bent (Kowalski) uses hotness for more than (less than? something other than) the sheer joy of hotness, and is absolutely stunning. Once Upon a Time, F/K, is just brilliant. Full and developed and warm, warm, hot. And in this recent post, where she provides tasty little bites of character observation.

I was honestly going to have sets with order and structure and stuff (commentfic!day! snippet!day!), but that might be beyond me. So, hey, have some snippets. The first two I've recced in my LJ, because my love is wide as the ocean:

Imperative, by [livejournal.com profile] geekwriter143, F/K, all written in the imperative. \o/

Mortal Enemies, by [livejournal.com profile] elementalv. Turtle-POV.

As the Day Begins, by [livejournal.com profile] catwalksalone. A vivid look at a key moment in Ange Vecchio's life.

Atmospherics, by [livejournal.com profile] kalpurna. Here and here. A pair of F/K snippets to cuddle up with.

That's it for today! I'll be back with two more shortfic rec posts before my week of power is up.

(Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] dessert_first, [livejournal.com profile] ignazwisdom, and [livejournal.com profile] nos4a2no9 for getting this comm up and running again, and for holding my hand.)

OMG, yay!

One of my very favourite things is comment porn and little hidden bits people have made up out of he blue. And I used to be quite lurktastic, and so caught a lot of the doings in the last year or so, but not everything! And rarely anything older.

So yaaaaay, you! Finding stuff I haven't read (a short list by now!) is absolutely FTW. *hoards things into my commentfic tag*

*twirls you*

Mortal Enemies is one of my all-time favorite fics ever, of any length! It often pops up in my brain, and makes me laugh every time I even think of it!

Hooray!

Wow, I had read exactly none of those snippets/commentfics, and now I am filled with intense fannish love. They were all great, but I particularly liked [livejournal.com profile] kalpurna's snippets from Atmospherics. That was absolutely lovely.

Thanks again for doing this, S! I can't wait to see what else you've got in store for us!

Nos, you are a total fibber, young lady, for you read and commented on my Ange snippet way back when I posted it. A fibber or a space cadet. I still love you, either way.
