Title: An Admirable Solution
Author: [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza
Pairing: Fraser/RayK
Rating: NC17
Length: >20K
Why I'm reccing this fic: It starts, as it so often does, with a stake-out, and Ray's mouth getting the best of him. He admits to Fraser that he has a friend, Paulie, with whom he has a...standing arrangement with, someone he can go to for uncomplicated sex. Fraser is dumbfounded by this simple, admirable solution to their celibate states.

That starts their mad tumble downhill, a relationship based on sex that quickly spins out of control. Fraser gets sex, oh yeah, he can do the sex. It's everything else he has a hard time with. Staying the night, taking the scenic route, letting it be more than just a quick fuck. All those things that Ray needs so badly, Fraser just doesn't get. And Ray's not sure he can teach Fraser, or that Fraser's even willing to learn.

I love this story so much because it's Fraser at his most human. He's experienced and worldly when it comes to sex and lust and the way the world works, well aware of the pleasures of the flesh, but still managing to retain a sweet innocence and naivety as well.

So Ray cued him. "I'm sorry I wigged out on you," he said, collapsing on the bench beside Fraser, "and I'm sorry I left you horny and hanging."

Fraser slid down a bit on the bench and jammed his hands into the pockets of his leather jacket; he looked really, really relieved. "I—that's all right, Ray. That—it happens."

Despite himself, Ray felt a sharp prickle of resentment: Fraser was papering over this way too quickly. It felt like the last days with Stella, when she'd stopped fighting with him. That was when Ray knew their marriage was really, really over, when she couldn't be bothered to argue and everything was, "All right, Ray," and "That's fine, Ray," and "Whatever you say, Ray." This thing with Fraser was just the opposite—it had never truly started, despite the sex, despite the partnership, despite everything. This wasn't anything real, this thing between them, because Fraser wouldn't fight with him anymore. In fact, Fraser hadn't fought with him since they'd started fucking, and if you couldn't fight with a person, you weren't a friend, you weren't lovers, you weren't anything.

Excellent rec, hon! I really love this story, and your write-up really does it justice: it definitely is a great Fraser story, and a great Kowalski story, and an all-around, um, GREAT story. (I cannot be eloquent right now).
