There are two moments that come to mind when I think about why I love Ray Vecchio. One, in the pilot, is when cynical Detective Vecchio is sitting there at his desk with a pile of open cases, mouthing off about 'the dead Mountie thing' to a stiff in a red suit, and Fraser says says the dead Mountie is his father. And Ray makes a decision to help.
The second is Ray paying people $100 to come in off the street and listen to a Candian quote an American revolutionary, so that Fraser can filibuster the council.
Here's a vid I can watch anytime I forget why I love him so:

Finally, Father Confessor is my love letter to Vecchio, one end to the other.
