Sassy, street-smart and very much one of the coolest characters in due South, Frannie Vecchio's presence in fic is always win in my book.
I find Frannie/Welsh stories refreshing because of their realness. Theirs is a pairing that, more often than not, works because of their familiarity with each other.
laurakaye 's An Officer and A Gentleman (A strong PG-13 for language, short,
link goes to author's website) is a charming fic where we see the developing romance between Welsh and Officer Vecchio. Set post-CotW, what makes it an interesting fic is how Frannie realizes how much she's changed since her days as a Civilian Aid in the 2-7.
Safe (PG, 3,000 words) by
gloriana has Frannie at her funniest without making a bimbo out of her.
There are many reasons why Frannie/Buddy French wouldn't work.
isiscolo 's If You Can See Where You Are Going (PG, 9000, due South/Wilby Wonderful crossover) takes on those reasons and shows why and how Frannie and Buddy getting together makes for a delightful reading. Frannie moves on from her infatuation for Fraser while Buddy French learns to open up to the unexpected.
Frannie/Elaine is a pairing that is seriously easy to like.
wintercreek 's 'Cause We Belong Together (NC-17, short, link goes to due South Seekrit Santa website) is sweet and hot as we look in the two of them ten years in the future.
I'll be the first one to admit that I read
listersgirl 's I First Came to Canada on the Trail of a Mountie (barely PG, short, due South/Twitch City crossover) for the novelty appeal of a Frannie/Hope story. Even though it ends just as things get--ahem--stimulating , it's a total charmer of a ficlet and well worth of a read.
Frannie/Thatcher is my favourite one of all the Frannie pairings. Not only are they two women with strong personalities, but also quite complimentary to one another.
thehoyden 's International Woman of Mystery (PG, 904 words, link goes to AO3) is an alluring AU in which a vacationing Frannie has an encounter with a very, very mysterious Thatcher.
Evening by Sitnah (G, short, link goes to DSA) is a quick and sweet scene in which Frannie muses about Thatcher.
My all-time must read for this pairing is
marcellapolman 's Superiority (PG-13, about 2,600 words) is simply hilarious as Thatcher breaks through her denial in being attracted to Frannie. Any fic that has this:
Kowalski didn’t keep Meg from visiting the precinct, though. Very often, he wasn’t even there—and neither was Fraser. To watch Frannie and to feel annoyed by the sight she provided could make Meg’s day. Frannie’s yelling at somebody through the bullpen, the rattling sounds her fingers made on her computer keyboard, the number of buttons undone on her blouse, they all caused a fierce irritability in Meg. She liked that feeling. It made her feel infinitely superior to Frannie.
“What are you doing, Meg? Trying to stare them out of my bra?”
She awoke with a start from her reverie. She had indeed been staring, amazed and annoyed that Harding Welsh allowed that much cleavage in his bullpen.
Meg averted her eyes, fervently searching for a change of subject, only to come up with the rather lame excuse of needing some information on the McDowell case.
“My boobs know nothing about that,” Frannie declared. “But maybe there’s something on the computer.” She smiled sweetly. “Come have a look.”
Meg approached the desk with utmost caution—and stopped at five feet distance.
“You must have amazing eyesight, honey,” Frannie assessed. Her keyboard rattled fiercely. “’Kay. The McDowell case. What do you want to know?”
“I…Does he work alone, or are others involved as well?”
“Really,” Frannie said. “You want to know if he has partners? Is that the hottest topic you can think of right now?”
“Yes.” Meg felt uncomfortable. The way Frannie phrased things was highly unnerving at times.
No rattling sounds ensued. Instead, Frannie turned her chair towards Meg, granting her a perfect view on her cleavage.
“I don’t believe you. You’re starting to run out of excuses for your visits to the 2-7, hon.”
is worth many rereads.

Date: 2010-03-01 11:15 pm (UTC)I could write it, per-maybe-haps, if any of my plot bunnies leaned toward that pairing. Unfortunately up to now, that hasn't been the case. :(

Date: 2010-03-05 03:00 am (UTC)And I do love me some Frannie. Actually, I'm very fond of this story, a crossover with Wilby Wonderful, where Frannie meets Duck and Buddy and really gets a chance to grow as a character and stretch her wings.
