Why I'm reccing this fic: This is the kind of fic that eats you alive. It has the perfect ratio of angst to sex and also of sex to sweetness. And it's something I assume all non-newbies have already read, so this is the perfect challenge for it. Being new to this fandom myself a couple months ago, i'd have to say this was probably the fic that hooked me. Also, it's scorchingly hot.

It sat between them for what felt like an hour, and when Fraser finally answered, it wasn't the kind of answer he was expecting. Instead, Fraser clutched at his arm, startling him into turning around. Fraser's eyes were midnight blue and dilated at the center. "Keep your eyes on the warehouse," Fraser whispered hoarsely, and then a moment later, he was bent down across the front seat, his head in Ray's lap.

Why I'm reccing this fic: I don't see any reason that a starter pack has to be full of oldies but goodies only. This one's pretty spanking new but I feel like it deserves a place with the greats. Excellent characterization, fantastically hot sex, angst (yay!), and lurve. Greatness. If I had only just finished watching ds, this is the post-cotw fic I would want someone to point me to first.

It was halfway through the second day when they came up over a small hill, and Ray could see it, way out on the horizon. Fraser was right, it was practically the Chicago of the freaking Northwest Areas, houses and buildings stretched out along the winding blue of the river.

Ray called the dogs to a stop, Dief standing at the head of the line, tongue wagging. "How long?" Fraser was standing to the side, and he looked like he was just taking it in. He didn't answer for a moment, then turned his head. God, that fucking smile again.

"Pardon?"

"How long until we get there, Fraser?"

"I think by this time tomorrow."

Fucking great. Fucking Inuvik. It was everything that was wrong with his life, and he kind of hated the place even though he'd never been there.

Fraser didn't move to leave, so Ray stood up and clasped his shoulder. He swore he could feel Fraser's warmth through the about five layers of wool and fur. "Let's get cracking then."

Fraser turned and put his mittened hand on Ray's face. "Yes. Yes, indeed." And they were off.

I am in total agreement on "A House Is Not a Home." I LOVE the new stuff that become instant classics, and this is one. Oh, BOYS.
