I've tried to pick some fics that perhaps aren't that well known...

Title: Three Months
Author: Laura Mason, [livejournal.com profile] lorie945
Pairing: Fraser/Vecchio
Rating: NC-17
Length: Long
Why I'm reccing this fic: This was one of the first Fraser/Vecchio fics I fell in love with. It's got a little bit of angst, a first time and tackles coming out to the family. And it has some sap which I admit I have a fondness for. It remains a fic that I enjoy re-reading as it’s very well rounded, a bit of everything and all of it well written.

Fraser watched Ray pull away, wondering why his friend had seemed so -- defeated. Surely his refusal to spend the night wasn't that important.

He reviewed their conversation once again, and found himself focusing on Ray's choice of words. "Isolating yourself." Did Ray feel that he stayed in this building because the neighborhood kept him isolated? It certainly wasn't true -- he knew all his neighbors, and many of the local merchants as well.

But it wasn't a place to entertain. He remembered Francesca's attempt to brighten the place the night she'd made him a dinner here. And he remembered Victoria, so many candles glowing but not able to hide the emptiness of the apartment. He didn't keep food supplies here; his only staples were tea and dog food. He only had the jar of coffee because Ray brought it himself, periodically.

Fraser wasn't punishing himself by living this simply. He preferred it, preferred having his belongings in a trunk, ready to move on at a moment's notice. He didn't want to clutter his rooms with things. Things weren't important, anyway.

But if things weren't important -- if people were what mattered to him, then why was Fraser always alone? Why didn't he spend more time with people from the consulate or the precinct? He turned down invitations most of the time.

And Ray saw this. Ray, who didn't ask but just drove him home for dinner. Or took him to a restaurant. Or invited him on a double date, not because he wanted Fraser to have a woman -- but just to get him out into the world, out of what must seem to Ray like a terribly lonely existence.

Actually, Fraser realized, what truly would be a lonely, isolated existence -- without Ray.

Three Months

Title: Lullaby
Author: Katrina Bowen
Pairing: Fraser/Vecchio
Rating: PG
Length: short
Why I'm reccing this fic: I love the fact this is one of those could have happened in the show scenarios. Fraser and Ray stop off outside of Chicago on the trail of a criminal, there's some wonderful dialogue before Fraser takes Ray up on his suggestion of ‘doing something’. A first time that doesn't go all that smoothly but works out all the same. I'm a sucker for the dialogue in this one I really am. Very true to the show.

Ray took another half-hearted poke at his plate. "Do you have any idea what this is supposed to be?"

Ben squinted at the chalkboard hanging above the diner's cash register; unenlightened, he looked back down at the table in front of him. "Ah, no. But from the color, it would seem to be some kind of -- well, if I had to narrow it down to just one of the major food groups ... " he paused, trying to decide.

"Would you at least say it's some kind of mammal?" Ray used his fork to turn over the grayish substance. "Some dead mammal. It's probably roadkill -- look at this! Is this *fur* on it?" he demanded in appalled amazement. "Where's Dief when I really need him?" He gave up and dropped his fork with a clatter. The waitress behind the counter glared at them balefully and continued filling napkin dispensers.

"Now, Ray, I'm sure you're exaggerating. It can't possibly be that bad ..." Ben took a bite, and his face fell. "Oh dear." He tried to discretely push his plate away; the waitress snorted and disappeared back into the kitchen.

Lullaby

Title: Aftermath
Author: Elaine Walker
Pairing: Fraser/Vecchio
Rating: PG-13
Length: Short
Why I'm reccing this fic: Elaine Walker writes some good Fraser/Vecchio first times and this is just an example. This one also tackles the very important point of the fact Fraser constantly seems to put his life in danger seemingly without thinking of the impact on the people who love him, such as Ray. It's nice and gentle and the emotion and reactions are very believable.

"Ray, why are you angry with me?"

"Angry? Who's angry? You're a hero. Thanks, Frasier."

"Ray, please. Don't you know, after all this time, how important your friendship is to me? If there's something wrong, I want... need... to know."

"There's nothing wrong, OK?" He was almost shouting. He took a deep, shaky breath and started again. "Look, you saved my ass, but it made me look kinda stupid, you know? I'll get over it."

"Ray, I just can't believe that's the real reason."

"It's the only reason you're going to get!" He was shouting again. Damn!

They sat in silence for what seemed like an eternity.
