I've been meaning to make recs for awhile and I figure now is as good a time to start as any. The hardest part was narrowing it down to three.
Title: Conviction
Author:
china_shop
Pairing: Fraser/Vecchio
Rating: PG
Length: Middle-ish
Why I'm reccing this fic: This is one of the first F/V fics I read when I entered fandom, and it still is in my top 3. China Shop works from a particular moment in canon and then wraps Ray's growing awareness of his feelings for Fraser in-between and all around the events that happen after. As with all of her work, this fic is well-written, and she gets Ray, his humor, his family, the way he deals with things. A wonderful first-time fic.
Then the Mountie burst onto the scene in a flurry of explosions and hired killers and deaf half-wolves, and within days Ray had gotten blown up and tossed out a third-floor window, and ended up in the hospital—which was as good a metaphor as any for how Fraser turned Ray’s life upside-down. Ray followed him to the ends of the earth without a moment’s hesitation—without even an invitation—and it wasn’t until he was on the plane, on his way home, a No Smoking sign glowing above his head, and the pilot yapping away about altitude and wind velocity over the intercom, that Ray was forced to admit to himself that not only did he have a type that included guys but, even worse, he had the same taste in guys as his little sister Frannie.

Title: Sound of Coming Down
Author:
natlet
Pairing: F/K/V
Rating: R
Length: 3905 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: Written for
getfraserlaid, this is a post-apocalyptic story, written in a great Vecchio voice, that is at once harsh and peaceful, and brings the three men together in a quiet but inevitable way. The apocalypse is surprisingly in the background here, and for a relatively short fic, she captures all of the barriers and understanding that this relationship would have.
For a moment, it was silent. The sunlight slanting through the window hit just at the cuff of Ray's jeans, glinted off the bronze hardware of his boots. They were pretty new, but they gave him blisters. He thought about how the leather would go stained and grey, the rubber soles would harden and crack, and he sighed and it was just so goddamn loud they all looked up, all at once.
Sound of Coming Down
Title: In The State Of
Author:
mazily
Pairing: V/K
Rating: PG-13
Length: 1550
Why I'm reccing this fic: Mazily has a fantastic Kowalski voice, and the way she's structured this fic is brilliant. I love watching Kowalski crack and pull himself together, egged on by Vecchio and all of the tension between them. This fic is sad and funny and so true to Ray. Did I mention her Ray voice?
At the airport, the first of too many airports, Fraser'd held his hat in his hands, twisting and turning and twisting again, and said, "It has been an honor-" He said other stuff, too, but, really, what the fuck was that supposed to mean? Luckily, they serve alcohol on airplanes, and everyone knows that alcohol, while it doesn't make things better, at least makes them suck a lot less for a little while.
